We’ll start today with Dolphins news.  The issue for the upgrades to the Seven-Names stadium was approved by the County commission, and will go to a county-wide vote on May the 14th.  Here’s the full story from the Miami Herald:

The Marlins were handed their fourth shutout of the young season last night, as the Braves pummeled the Fish 8-0.  Evan Gattis, “El Oso Blanco”, and Juan Francisco hit monstrous home runs against Alex Sanabia in a six-run fifth inning.  Mercifully, the Marlins will have today off to try and recover.  They take on the Phillies in a three-game series this weekend and the Washington Nationals will be here for a three-game set Monday through Wednesday.  The Marlins have scored a grand total of 16 runs in their first nine games of the season.  I GUARANTEE that things will get better.  Nobody loses at an eight out of nine pace and scores less than two runs per game for an entire season.

By the way . . . I repeat what I said yesterday to the South Florida “media”:  Stop harping on the low attendance.  We can see the empty seats on the TV.  The media needs to remember that anything and everything they say influences what fans do.  It is ok to criticize ownership and even to keep begging them to sell the team.  However, the continued negativity towards the team in general serves no purpose whatsoever, other than to keep people away.  VERY IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER:  The sale of the team will not be determined by poor attendance.  Mr. Loria has already indicated he doesn’t give a rat’s ass about the fans or what they think. Let's concentrate on showing any potential new owner that we will support the Marlins, regardless of who the owner is.

The Marlins have scored a grand total of 16 runs in their first nine games.  For those of you who are not math majors, that is under 2 runs per game.  Here is how the Fish stack up at the bottom of the ladder in runs scored so far this season:

TEAM W-L Runs
Miami 1-8 16
Pittsburgh 3-6 21
Cubs 3-5 23
LA Dodgers 5-3 24
Padres 2-6 26

Orioles 8 Red Sox 5

The Miami Heat again were without the Big Three last night, but the “Little Twelve” led the Heat to a 103-98 win over the Washington Wizards.  Ray Allen led the Heat with 23 points, as Miami clinched the best record in the NBA and home-court advantage through the entire playoffs.  Rashard Lewis scored 17 points, Shane Battier 15, and Mike Miller scored 14 and collected eight rebounds.  The Heat is off tonight, and will host the Boston Celtics here at the AAA on Friday.  Tipoff is at 7:30pm, and you can watch the game on Sun Sports and nationally on NBA-TV.  On Sunday, they welcome the Chicago Bulls to the AAA, game time is 1:00pm, and the game will be televised nationally by ABC, Channel 10 in South Florida.

THE ANSWER TO TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  The Heat won their 62nd game of the season yesterday, a new franchise record for wins in a season.  Obviously, the old record was 61.  What year was it?  Tell you later, alligator.

The 1996-97 Heat finished the season 61-21.  I guess this year’s team is pretty good.  Another question for us to ponder:  Is Erik Spolstra the coach of the year in the NBA?  Methinks so.
