TUESDAY BLOG, October 8th, 2013


In the MLB playoffs, some late inning heroics in the playoffs yesterday.  

The Dodgers beat the Braves 4-3, on a two-run homer by Juan Uribe in the bottom of the eighth inning.  The Dodgers win that series 3 games to 1.  They will face the winner of the series between the the Pirates and the Cardinals, which is now tied at 2 games apiece.  The deciding game 5 between the Pirates and the Cards will be played tomorrow in St. Louis.  In the American League, the Tampa Bay Rays are still on the brink of elimination, but they feel they have the Boston Red Sox right where they want them.  Yesterday, Jose Lobaton hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to propel the Rays to the 5-4 win, putting the series now at 2 games to 1 in favor of the Red Sox.  The Oakland A’s, meanwhile, beat the Tigers yesterday 6-3, and can end the series today in game four.

Bad week in my picks.  I went 3-4 against the spread this past week, 4-3 straight up.  My season numbers so far are:  20-14-2 against the spread, and 25-11 straight up.  Good, but not good enough.

In college football, all seven Division 1 football teams located in the state of Florida won on Saturday as UM, FIU, FAU, South Florida, Central Florida, Florida, and Florida State all were victorious.  Trust me when I tell you . . . that does not happen very often.

Randy Johnson won five games in 2001, and Francisco Rodriguez also won five games in the 2002 postseason.
