Let’s start off with the League Championship Series in MLB.

The Detroit Tigers were looking at sweeping the first two games in Boston, and were well on their way, with a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning.  However, like I told you in my analysis of these teams last week, the Tigers’ bullpen can be horrendous at times, and that is what the relievers were yesterday.  Big Papi, David Ortiz, blasted a game tying grand slam in the bottom of the eighth, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia ended the affair in the bottom of the ninth with a run-scoring single and the series moves to Detroit tied at one game apiece.  Game three is tomorrow, and will feature Justin Verlander on the hill for the Tigers against John Lackey.  First pitch on Tuesday will be at 4:00 pm, and the game will be televised by FOX.

The Cardinals are in complete control of their NLCS against the LA Dodgers, with a two game to none lead.  The Cards’ pitching has been lights out, as rookies Joe Kelly and Michael Wacha have totally shut down the Dodgers’ hitters.  The Dodgers have managed to only score two runs in 22 innings so far in this series, and they have yet to face St. Louis ace Adam Wainwright, who goes tonight.  The Dodgers may not have Hanley Ramirez in the lineup for game three tonight.  Hanley missed game two after getting hit by a pitch in the ribs in the first game, and his availability for tonight’s game is still in question.  The Dodgers will have Hyun-Jin Ryu on the hill against Wainwright tonight.  First pitch will be at 8:07 pm, and you can watch it on TBS on your cable or satellite system.

In other baseball news,

The Marlins have some new coaches, including their fifth batting coach since 2010.  Also, former third-base coach Joe Espada is now the manager at Class-A Jupiter.

Let’s go to the gridiron:

Here are this week’s results in the NFL.  Thanks to the great comeback by the Patriots, I am 4-2 so far this week, losing the Patriots-Saints game (Saints +2) and the Lions-Browns (Browns +2).  (I told you the 27 point spread in the Broncos-Jags game was too many points.) Tonight, the Colts take on the San Diego Chargers, I have Indianapolis +3).

THURSDAY

Chicago 27           NY Giants 21

SUNDAY

Dallas 31              Washington 16

Pittsburgh 19        NY Jets 6
Denver 35             Jacksonville 19 (Jax +27)

New England 30    New Orleans 27

Detroit 31             Cleveland 17

Cincinnati 27         Buffalo 24 (OT)

Kansas City 24       Oakland 7

Carolina 35            Minnesota 10

Philadelphia 31      Tampa Bay 20

St. Louis 38            Houston 13

Seattle 20              Tennessee 13

San Francisco 32    Arizona 20

MONDAY

Indianapolis @ San Diego -3 8:30 pm ESPN

The Colts are looking for their fourth consecutive win this week against a Chargers team that has been consistently inconsistent so far in 2014.  The Colts are not just Andrew Luck, as they are fourth in the NFL in rushing offense, with 142 yards per contest.  San Diego held Oakland to 299 yards last week, but the Chargers committed five turnovers and lost 27-17.  Phillip Rivers is going to have to put the team on his back if they are to beat the Colts this week.  This one is not easy to pick, but I’ll go with the Colts plus the points on the road.

The year was 2005, when Virginia Tech, Miami, and Florida State were all ranked in the top ten.  This year it is Clemson at #3, FSU at #5, and Miami and #10.  By the way, the SEC is still top dog, and they have EIGHT teams ranked in the top-25 this week.
Behave yourselves, and always remember that tomorrow will bring us a brand new day.
