THE BLOG HOLIDAY SCHEDULE:  No blogs Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years’ Eve, and New Year’s Day.  Other than that, business as usual.

Christmas is here.  If you’re short on gifts, the options for you are buying gift cards at the corner store, or re-gifting.

The grinches that live in Buffalo stole Christmas from the Dolphins yesterday, as the Bills dominated the Fins in every facet of the game, shutting them out 19-0.  Even after the loss, the Dolphins are still in the playoff hunt, but they’re going to need a little help.  The Fins have to beat the Jets on Sunday, and hope that the Cincinnati Bengals beat the Baltimore Ravens OR that the San Diego Chargers win against Kansas City.    The Fins host the Jets at 1:00 pm, the Bengals are at home against the Ravens, and the Chargers are at home against the Chiefs.  Keep your fingers crossed.

Here’s more on the Dolphins from Armando Salguero:

MY TAKE:  The Dolphins picked a really bad time to lay an egg.  The offense did absolutely nothing and the defense was pushed around all over the field by the Bills and their backup quarterback, who beat them for the second time this season.  The depleted offensive line still can’t protect Ryan Tannehill (SEVEN SACKS YESTERDAY) and can’t open up holes for the running game.  You would think they could do one or the other.  They had everything to play for yesterday, and didn’t take advantage of the momentum they had built.  Back to the drawing board against the Jets this Sunday, a team that will be playing for Coach Rex Ryan’s job.

Here are this week’s NFL results.  I’m 3-2-1 this week so far on my picks, and my record so far this season is a very respectable 58-47-6 against the spread, and 67-44 straight up.

I don’t want to sound like I am all negative on this team.  When I analyzed the Fins for this season, I picked them to finish second in the division with a 9-7 record, and to make it to the postseason.  They can still make that number and reach the playoffs with a win this week and a   little help.  To get to the last week of the season with a chance to advance to the playoffs after all the turmoil and the issues in the offensive line has still been a remarkable feat.

The 49ers cannot afford a letdown against the lowly Falcons.  SF is 10-4, but they aren’t guaranteed a playoff berth just yet.  I have to take the 49ers here, I hate the large number, but it is what it is.

In other NFL news, Peyton Manning set a new NFL season record with 51 touchdown passes as the Broncos routed the Houston Texans.  He has a shot, depending on how much he plays next week, at setting a new season record for passing yards.

TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  Peyton Manning set a new record for TD passes in a season yesterday.  He needs 266 yards in the final game on Sunday to set a new single-season record for passing yards.  Who holds the record right now? The answer comes later, alligator.

Here’s ESPN’s NFL Nation Blog, with more news from all around the league:

Of course, we can all continue to sleep at night, knowing full well that Aaron Hernandez remains in jail, where he belongs.

THE ANSWER TO TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION: Peyton Manning set a new record for TD passes in a season yesterday.  He needs 266 yards in the final game on Sunday to set a new single-season record for passing yards.  Who holds the record right now?

Drew Brees threw for 5,476 yards in 2011.  Manning stands at 5,211 this season.

Behave yourselves, and always remember that tomorrow will bring us a brand new day.
