The Marlins lost to the Atlanta Braves yesterday, 7-1, to move to within 1/2 game of last place over the surging Phillies, who have won four straight.  The Braves hit four home runs, three of them against Ricky Nolasco, who gave up a total of 6 runs and 8 hits in 5 1/3 innings.  The Fish host the San Diego Padres this weekend at Marlins Park, before embarking on a two-week road trip to Atlanta, Washington, and New York.

Let’s revisit the Hanley Ramirez trade.  I still believe that the Marlins did not receive good value for Hanley in this deal, but that said, we have to look at this trade realistically.  The easiest thing to do is to jump all over this and call it a fire-sale, a tent-sale, a garage-sale, or a clearance sale.  A defensive liability at shortstop, a below-average third baseman that hits .250 and has demonstrated a lackadaisical attitude on the fieldm and a player whose lack of effort is what has defined his career here in Miami is not a $15 million a year player nor can he ever be the face of your franchise if he is constantly pouting or unhappy.  It would be very easy to just throw the owner under the bus and leave it at that.  However, I am going to distribute the blame and responsibility for this situation all around the front office.  

Team owner Jeffrey Loria gave Hanley way too much love, starting with his now infamous lack of hustle play that ended up ending Fredi Gonzalez’ tenure here in Miami.    A batting championship got Hanley a good contract, but a contract that, at the time, everybody agreed with and made H2R the face of the Marlins franchise as they were getting ready to move in to the new park.  The management of this team made a huge error in how they handled bringing in Jose Reyes to play shortstop.  Management and ownership should have been more up front in dealing with Hanley moving to third base, and should have told him up front.  If he wasn’t happy, they should have traded him then.  

Once they “worked it out”, they should have figured out that they were going to be stuck with Hanley at third base come rain or shine for at least the entire 2012 season.  Trading him mid season gave other teams reason to low-ball the Marlins in trade negotiations.  Hanley’s value is as low as it gets, so much so that even after including lefty reliever Randy Choate in the deal, it only netted them pitcher Nathan Eovaldi and minor league pitcher Scott McGough, not what you’d expect to get for a former batting champion.  You have to sell high, and buy low.  At least, they were able to get the Dodgers to be totally responsible for the remainder of Hanley’s contract.  For example, in trading Omar Infante and Anibal Sanchez, they got a great return.  Infante is a good second baseman, not a superstar, and Anibal is your fourth starter, one who after this season, will be eligible for free agency and will probably command a $10-12 million yearly salary.  I’m looking forward to seeing Jacob Turner and catcher Rob Brantly before the end of the season.  

The front office, Larry Beinfest and Mike Hill in particular, have to answer for the team’s lackluster season so far.  Ownership has to also take blame for trying to build a team overnight without a true road map.  The Marlins went out and spent a ton of money to put together a ball club.  They signed a catcher, John Buck, who is hitting under .175.  Reyes has had a mediocre season so far, hitting about 60 points under what he hit last year.  Mark Buehrle has been ok at times, and, of course, Heath Bell has been horrible.  They put these guys around what everybody felt was a good young nucleus.  But, was it?

Josh Johnson is still considered a top of the line starter, but his results really don’t show it.  Ricky Nolasco is up and down, and his “downs” have certainly outnumbered his “ups”.  Gaby Sanchez went from 2011 all star to 2012 minor leaguer after hitting .200.  Twitter aficionado Logan Morrison is hitting a crisp .230 this season, and is a defensive liability  in left field.  He has produced 7 hits in his last 44 at bats since July 7th, with NO runs batted in.  Talk about picking up the slack.  Giancarlo Stanton hasn’t played since July 7th, and so far this year, Giancarlo has managed to only play in 80 games and won’t be back for another two or three weeks.  You gotta love Emilio Bonifacio’s hustle and determination, but when he is hitting sixth in your lineup, you are in trouble.  Justin Ruggiano and Donovan Solano have been pleasant surprises so far, but that’s as far as the word pleasant will go with this team.  They brought in Carlos Lee, but why?  What for?  An out of shape guy at the end of his career who has become a .175 punch and judy hitter, can’t field his position, and takes up a lot of space.  That acquisition did not help in the least.

Now on to manager Ozzie Guillen.  Successful managers have great players to lead into battle.  It is the manager’s job to put his team in situations to win games, but it is still the players that have to do their jobs.  The pitchers have got to make that great pitch in key situations to get opposing batters out, the hitters have to come through and get the big hit and drive in runs, fielders have to make plays to make sure that you only have to get three outs every inning.  A manager also has to provide leadership, preferably leadership by example, motivate his players, push the right buttons, and get the most out of every one on that roster.  Has Mr. Guillen done that?  He’s a very good baseball man, with a keen knowledge of the game and is a very good game manager.  On the other hand, he has not been able to translate any of that to wins.  You have to have the horses to consistently win in the big leagues.  He has also not been able to take his fiery style and transfer it to his players on a consistent basis.  It is well understood that he will never be a leader through example, and this team’s roster does not include anyone who can be that vocal leader by example.  

What does the immediate and long term future hold?  The minor league organization is not what it should be, and the top prospects are a few years away from being major league ready.  When your major league coaches are up here having to teach fundamentals to your players, that is a problem.  When you have to send players on your major league roster to the minors because they don’t listen to their coaches, that is a problem.   Hitting and pitching coaches do not bat and they do not pitch.    

It is up to ownership and the front office to right this ship.  If any more trades are on the horizon, they better make sure they are getting true value in return.  They have to take the money they are saving in salary after these trades and bring in the right players.  It is their responsibility to the rest of the players, to the coaches and manager, and, more importantly, to the fans and the South Florida community.  

Behave yourselves, and always remember that tomorrow will bring us a brand new day.

Los Marlins perdieron ayer contra los Bravos de Atlanta, 7-1, y con la derrota, se acercan a medio juego del sotano de la division.  Los Phillies de Philadelphia han ganado cuatro juegos al hilo y estan amenazando cederle el ultimo lugar a los Peces.  Los Bravos ayer conectaron cuatro jonrones, tres de ellos contra Ricky Nolasco, que permitio seis carreras y ocho hits en 5 1/3 innings.  Los Marlins reciben a los Padres de San Diego este fin de semana antes de salir de viaje por dos semanas a Atlanta, Washington, y Nueva York.  

Hoy vamos a regresar al cambio de Hanley Ramirez.  Yo soy de la opinion que no recibieron lo suficiente en el cambio, pero tenemos que analizar la movida realisticamente.  Lo mas facil de hacer ahora es poner el grito en el cielo que esto es una venta de garaje, una venta para limpiar inventario, en fin, lo que hemos visto en el pasado.  Cambiar a un pelotero, en este caso un shortstop bastante malo en la devensiva, ahora una tercera base no muy buena que batea .250 y un pelotero que ha demonstrado una mala actitud y poco esfuerzo en el terreno no es un jugador de $15 millones al año y nunca puede ser la cara de la franquicia si siempre esta llorando y quejandose.  Seria muy facil tirar al dueño  del equipo debajo de la guagua y olvidarse del resto.   La culpa y la responsabilidad tiene que ser distribuida a todos los miembros de la gerencia del equipo.  

Jeffrey Loria le dio demasiado amor a Hanley, empezando con aquel dia en que le costo el trabajo a Fredi Gonzalez con los Marlins.  Un campeonato de bateo le trajo a Hanley un buen contrato a largo plazo, un contrato que en aquel momento, todo el mundo aplaudio y convirtio a Hanley en la cara de la franquicia mientras se preparaban para mudarse al nuevo parque.  La gerencia se equivoco bastante en la forma en que trajeron a Jose Reyes a jugar el campo corto.  El dueño y la gerencia debian de haber hablado con Hanley desde un principio cuando decidieron moverlo para la tercera base.  Si Hanley no estaba contento, lo debian de haber cambiado en ese momento.    

Una vez que resolvieron ese potaje, se tenian que haber dado cuenta que estaban amarrado a Hanley en la tercera, malo o bueno, por lo menos por la temporada entera.  Cambiandolo a mitad de la temporada le dio a los otros equipos excusas oara tratar de obtener mangos bajitos.  El valor de Hanley estaba en el minimo cuando lo cambiaron ayer, tanto que aunque incluyeron al relevista Randy Choate en el cambio, solamente recibieron al pitcher Nathan Eovaldi y al pitcher de ligas menores Scott McGough, mucho menos de lo que uno esperaria recibir en cambio por un ex champion bate que esta considerado entre los mejores talentos en las grandes ligas.  Por lo menos consiguieron que los Dodgers se hicieran responsables totalmente por el resto del contrato de Hanley.  Hay que vender caro, y comprar barato.  Por ejemplo, cuando cambiaron a Omar Infante y a Anibal Sanchez, recibieron buen talento.  Infante es un buen pelotero, pero no es una estrella, y Anibal es tu cuarto abridor, un pitcher que despues de esta temporada, sera agente libre, y alguien le va a pagar entre $10 y $12 millones por temporada 

Larry Beinfest y Mike Hill tienen que responder por las deficiencias y los pobres resultados de los Marlins esta temporada.  Los dueños tambien tienen que cargar con la culpa al tratar de construir un equipo del dia a la noche sin un mapa de carretera.  Los Peces fueron y se gastaron un paco de pesos para tratar de fabricar rapidamente un equipo que pudiera competir para ganar.  No les han salido bien las cosas.  Primero, firmaron a un catcher, John Buck, que no le da a un globo con una guitarra, y su promedio de bateo esta por debajo de .175.  Jose Reyes esta bateando mas de 60 puntos por debajo de lo que bateo el año pasado.  Mark Buehrle ha sido un poco menos de lo que esperaban, y el cerrador Heath Bell ha sido peor que horrible.  Pusieron a estos jugadores con lo que todos pensaban que era un buen nucleo de talento.  Pero, es un buen nucleo?  

Josh Johnson es considerado un abridor de cabezera, pero sus resultados no lo demuestran.  Ricky Nolasco tiene altas y bajas, pero sus “bajas” son mas que sus “altas”.  Gaby Sanchez fue de jugar en el juego de las estrellas del año pasado a jugador de ligas menores en el 2012, despues de batear alrededor de .200.  Logan Morrison esta bateando .230 esta temporada, y no tiene la menor idea de lo que es jugar el jardin izquierdo.  Morrison tiene 7 hits en sus ultimos 44 turnos al bate desde el dia 7 de julio, y en ese tiempo, no ha logrado impulsar ni una carrera.  Ese mismo dia fue el ultimo juego que jugo Giancarlo Stanton.  Stanton es un gran talento, pero solamente ha podido jugar en 80 juegos en lo que va de temporada, y no se espera que regrese hasta dentro de dos o tres semanas.  Me encanta ver jugar a Emilio Bonifacio, junto a su entusiasmo y personalidad, pero cuando tienes a Emilio como sexto bate, existe un problema.  Justin Ruggiano y Donovan Solano han sido tremendos esta temporada desde que los pusieron a jugar, pero son las unicas dos cosas que merecen ser consideradas tremendas con este equipo.  Trajeron a Carlos Lee, pero para que?  Que resuelven trayendo a un tipo al final de su carrera, totalmente sobre peso y fuera de condicion, que se ha convertido en un bateador de .175 sin poder y que no fildea su posicion?  Eso no resolvio absolutamente nada.  

Vamonos ahora a Ozzie Guillen.  Los managers que tienen exito en las grandes ligas son aquellos managers que tienen buenos jugadores que dirigir.  La funcion del manager es poner a su equipo en situaciones para ganar los juegos, pero sigue siendo la responsabilidad de los jugadores en hacer su trabajo.  Los lanzadores tienen que tirar ese lanzamiento en situaciones claves para sacar un out, los bateadores tienen que conectar el hit preciso y remolcar la carrera, defensivamente, tienen que asegurar de que solamente tengan que sacar tres outs por inning.  El manager tambien tiene que traer liderazgo, preferiblemente ser lider por ejemplo y con su comportamiento, tienen que hacer las movidas correctas, y sacarle maximo a todos los jugadores en el roster.  Guillen ha logrado eso?  Es un buen manager, con un gran conocimiento del juego, y controla bien el juego.  Desgraciadamente, no ha podido convertir eso en victorias para el equipo.  Para ganar, hay que tener los jugadores.  Guillen no ha logrado transferir su estilo a sus jugadores consistentemente.  Se entiende que el nunca va a ser un lider admirado por su propio comportamiento, pero el roster del equipo no incluye a nadie que pueda servir como un lider vocal que traiga un buen ejemplo a los jugadores jovenes.  

Que podemos esperar para el futuro, tanto el futuro inmediato y a largo plazo?  Las ligas menores de los Marlins no estan donde deben de estar, y los mejores prospectos de la organizacion les falta unos años para estar listos para jugar en las grandes ligas.  Cuando tus coaches al nivel de las grandes ligas tienen que estar de maestros constantemente, existe un problema.  Cuando tu tienes que enviar jugadores del roster de las ligas mayores a las menores porque no aprenden, eso es un problema.  Los coaches de bateo y los coaches de pitcheo ni batean ni pitchean.  

El dueño y la gerencia del equipo tienen la responsabilidad de enderezar este barco y arreglar la situacion.  Si van a hacer mas cambios, tienen que asegurarse que van a recibir gran valor por esos jugadores, y tienen que usar el dinero que se ahorran y traer jugadores que den la talla.  Tienen ese deber con el resto de los jugadores, los coaches, el manager, y, mas importante, con la fanaticada y la comunidad del sur de la Florida.

As you wake up this morning, Hanley Ramirez is on his way to Los Angeles after the Marlins traded the under-performing infielder and reliever Randy Choate for pitcher Nathan Eovaldi and minor league pitcher Scott McGough.  I hate to say “I told you so”, but I told you yesterday in this blog that Hanley would be headed to Los Angeles.  The Fish could not get the Dodgers to take Heath Bell, however.  I still don’t believe that the Marlins are going to be trading Josh Johnson, but there are teams out there that may be willing to give a lot for JJ, including the Texas Rangers.  Back to Hanley . . . I always got along quite well with Hanley while he was here, but I understand the frustration that most people have with his attitude.  I truly believe that the Marlins did not get enough in return, mostly because the front office decided that they just had to trade him now.  There were a good number of other teams interested in Hanley, but I guess this was the best deal they could get.  With the trades they’ve made the last two days, the Marlins have not addressed their biggest need - more offense.  I will have more on Hanley and the Marlins tomorrow as the July 31st trade deadline approaches.

The Marlins blew a 3-1 lead yesterday, and lost to the Braves 4-3.  Martin Prado tripled in the seventh inning and scored the tie-breaking run on a Jayson Heyward single off Wade LeBlanc.  Quick turnaround today as the Braves and the Marlins hook up again this afternoon at 12:30.  Ricky Nolasco takes the mound for the Fish, Tommy Hanson will start for the Braves.  

In other baseball news, the Yankees lost to Seattle last night 4-2, but, more importantly, lost Alex Rodriguez for a minimum of two months after suffering a broken hand when hit by a Felix Hernandez pitch in the eighth inning.  Hernandez, by the way, hit three of the last five Yankee batters he faced last night.  Eric Chavez will man third base for the most part until ARod returns, with some Jayson Nix maybe thrown in.  

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired Wandy Rodriguez in a trade with the Houston Astros to bolster their starting rotation.  Pittsburgh sent three prospects to the Astros.  The Arizona Diamondbacks traded Ryan Roberts to the Tampa Bay Rays for minor league second baseman Tyler Bortnick.  Nothing yet on Ryan Dempster, who is trying to get traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers.  The Cubs and the Atlanta Braves had worked out the framework for a trade, but Dempster prefers going to the Dodgers.  

The Philadelphia Phillies and starting pitcher Cole Hamels have reached agreement on a deal - 6 years, $140 million. If my math is correct, the Phillies are paying close to $100 million PER SEASON to Hamels, Ryan Howard, Cliff Lee, and Roy Halladay.  This makes me think that if they can work out a trade for Lee, they will take it.   

The US Men’s olympic basketball team beat up on Spain yesterday 100-78.  Carmelo Anthony scored 23 of his 27 points in the first half, and LeBron James added 25 as the 2012 version of the Dream Team closed out their exhibition schedule before the Olympics.  If everything goes like it should, Spain and the US will probably meet again in the gold medal game on August 12th.

Al despertarse ustedes esta mañana, Hanley Ramirez esta rumbo a Los Angeles despues de que los Marlins lo cambiaron junto al relevista Randy Choate por el lanzador Nathan Eovaldi y el pitcher de ligas menores Scott McGough.  No los dije ayer que Hanley seria cambiado a los Dodgers en este mismo blog?  Haganme caso!  Los Marlins, aparantemente, no pudieron convencer a los Dodgers que se llevaran a Heath Bell tambien.  No pienso que los Peces van a cambiar a Josh Johnson, pero hay varios equipos, incluyendo los Texas Rangers, que estan mas que interesados en dar bastante por JJ.  Regresando a Hanley . . . yo siempre me lleve bien con el mientras estaba aqui, pero entiendo completamente la frustracion de sus compañeros de equipo, los coaches y los managers, y la fanaticada debido a su actitud y su manera de ser.  Asi y todo, estoy convencido que los Marlins no recibieron lo suficiente por Hanley en este cambio, porque la gerencia decidio que lo tenian que cambiar rapidamente.  Existian varios equipos con interes en Hanley, pero este fue el mejor cambio que pudieron negociar.  Con todo lo sucedido estos ultimos dos dias, los Marlins no han hecho nada para resolver su mayor problema - falta de bateo.  Tendre mas sobre Hanley y los Marlins mañana mientras nos acercamos a la fecha del 31 de julio.

Los Peces desperdiciaron una ventaja de 3-1 ayer, y perdieron contra los Bravos 4-3.  Martin Prado bateo un tribeis y anoto la carrera que desempato el juego en un hit impulsador de Jayson Heyward contra Wade LeBlanc.   Una noche corta, y los Bravos y los Marlins regresan al terreno  esta tarde a las 12:30.  Ricky Nolasco toma la lomita para los Marlins, Tommy Hanson abre para los Bravos.

En otras noticias de beisbol, los Yankees perdieron contra Seattle anoche 4-2, pero, mas importante, perdieron a Alex Rodriguez por lo menos por dos meses despues de sufrir una fractura en la mano despues de recibir un desbol de Felix Hernandez en el octavo inning.  Hernandes despacho tres desbols entre los ultimos cinco bateadores que vio anoche.  Eric Chavez jugara la tercera la mayoria del tiempo mientras ARod se recupera, junto a Jayson Nix.   

Los Piratas de Pittsburgh adquirieron al abridor Wandy Rodriguez en un cambio con los Astros de Houston.  Los Piratas le enviaron a tres prospectos a los Astros.  Los Arizona Diamondbacks cambiaron a Ryan Roberts a los Tampa Bay Rays por la segunda base de ligas menores, Tyler Bortnick.  Nada nuevo en el cambio de Ryan Dempster, que esta tratando que lo envien de Chicago a los Dodgers de Los Angeles.  Los Cubs y los Bravos tenian un arreglo para un cambio, pero Dempster prefiere Los Angeles.

El equipo de basketball Americano vencio facilmente a España ayer, 100-78.  Carmelo Anthony anoto 23 de sus 27 puntos en la primera mitad, LeBron James anoto 25.  La version del 2021 del equipo de ensueño cerro su schedule de exhibicion.  Si todo va como todos esperan, España y Estados Unidos se enfrentaran en el juego para decidir la medalla de oro el dia 12 de agosto.

As I have been reporting on this blog for the last couple of weeks, Omar Infante and Anibal Sanchez are taking their talents to the Motor City after the Marlins chose to become sellers yesterday by trading them to the Detroit Tigers for some prospects.  Before everybody loses it out there, let us analyze this trade for what it really is.  Omar Infante is a good second baseman, not a star.  Good glove, decent bat.  Anibal Sanchez is a very good major league pitcher, has a no-hitter to his name, and will help the Tigers solidify their rotation.  Anibal becomes a free agent after this season, and will command a long term deal that will undoubtedly surpass $10 million per season, not realistic for the Marlins after what they have already invested in their starting rotation.  Who did they get back from the Tigers?  Jacob Turner is one of the top pitching prospects in the game, and is only 21 years old.  He was probably rushed to the majors this year a little earlier than the Tigers wanted, but “need” usually trumps “want”.  All indications are that Turner will be sent to AAA New Orleans for the time being and Wade LeBlanc will replace Sanchez in the rotation at this time.  The other two prospects the Marlins received in the trade were catcher Rob Brantly and left handed pitcher Bryan Flynn.  A scouting report on Brantly shows an offensive-minded catcher, who hits for average, makes contact, and doesn’t strike out much.  Very good arm behind the plate, and his defense has shown continued improvement. Needs a little time to develop, but all signs indicate that he has the tools to be a major league catcher.  Flynn has a good arm, with a fastball that reaches the mid-nineties, and stands 6’8”.  Bottom line, the Fish got two guys that will probably be playing in Miami this season in Turner and Brantly, and a pitching prospect for the future in Flynn.  The Tigers gave up a lot for two months of Anibal and stability in their infield with Infante.  Hopefully, Turner and Brantly don’t end up turning into Andrew Miller and Mike Rabelo.  

What’s next for the Fish as we reach the trade deadline?  In order of importance, I believe that they are listening to offers for Hanley Ramirez, but I can tell you that the GM’s around the big leagues are trying to low-ball the Marlins.  They point to Hanley’s immaturity, his perceived lack of hustle, and his numbers on the field.  They are also pointing out that he has no position - he is not a shortstop, and he isn’t a third baseman yet.  In my opinion, if a trade offer doesn’t bring back a good amount of talent, the Marlins will be better off not pulling the trigger.  (File this prediction away for the moment:  The Marlins will end up trading Hanley to the LA Dodgers.)  The Fish are dangling Ricky Nolasco and Carlos Zambrano.  Nolasco is a possibility, but his lack of consistency and ups and downs lower his value as well.  Reliever Randy Choate is also out there for the taking, but his value is, obviously, a lot less.  Nobody in their right mind would give the Marlins anything for reliever Heath Bell at this time, unless he is packaged with somebody like Hanley to a west coast team (The Dodgers).  I truly do not believe that Josh Johnson will be traded.

The Marlins did have a game yesterday, and they managed to beat the Braves 2-1, ending a five-game losing skid.  Josh Johnson took a perfect game into the fifth inning, retiring the first 14 batters of the game until Brian McCann singled.  JJ struck out 9 before having to leave after the sixth inning with a cut blister in his ring finger.  The bullpen was a little shaky, but preserved the win, with Steve Chisek getting the save.  Chisek and the Marlins received a bit of help from first base umpire Laz Diaz, who called Jayson Heyward out at first base to complete a double play.  Heyward was clearly safe, and that proved to be a very crucial call when Chipper Jones singled in a run to cut the lead to 2-1.  Diaz, who continues to embarrass himself as one of the worst umpires in baseball, was positioned about 30 feet behind the first base bag in right field, when he made that call.  He proceeded to then throw out Fredi Gonzalez, who came out to argue the call.  Fredi and the Braves will be back on the field tonight.  Good pitching matchup - Mark Buehrle takes the mound for the Marlins, Tim Hudson will toe the rubber for the Braves.

The Yankees also stopped a losing streak, beating the Seattle Mariners 4-1.  Alex Rodriguez hit a two-run homer, #644 in his career and #299 as a Yankee.  The big news for the Yankees was a trade in which they got outfielder Ichiro Suzuki from the Mariners for a couple of minor league prospects.  Suzuki is basically a two month rental to replace Brett Gardner who will be out the rest of the year.  Ichiro got a tremendous standing ovation from the fans in Seattle, where he played the first 11 1/2 years of his major league career.  He promptly singled and stole second base in his first at bat.  Suzuki is hitting .261 this season, 62 points below his career average.  Maybe the change of scenery and the chance to play for a world series contender will help him.

In other trade rumors, the Atlanta Braves and the Chicago Cubs have apparently reached an agreement on a trade that would send Ryan Dempster to Atlanta for Randall Delgado.  The only holdup is final approval by Dempster, who has trade veto rights as a 10/5 player - ten years in the big leagues, five with his current team.  Stay tuned - the rest of the teams are bound to get going hot and heavy in the next couple of days.  

The US Men’s olympic basketball team take on Spain today in Barcelona as they close out their exhibition schedule before the Olympics.

Como les vengo diciendo en este blog hace casi dos semanas, Omar Infante y Anibal Sanchez estan llevando sus respectivos talentos a Detroit despues que los Marlins llegaron a la triste conclusion de que se acabo lo que se daba para la temporada del 2012 y los cambiaron a los Tigres.  Antes de que todos pierdan la tabla y el control, vamos a analizar este cambio por lo que es, en detalle.  Omar Infante es una buena segunda base, un buen pelotero, pero no es una estrella.  Es un buen guante y trae un bate decente.   Anibal Sanchez es un buen pitcher en las grandes ligas, tiene un juego de cero hit en su carrera, y va a ayudar a los Tigres mucho en la rotacion de abridores el resto de la temporada.  Anibal se convierte en agente libre despues de esta campaña, y va a poder recibir un contrato a largo plazo de mas de $10 millones por temporada, una cantidad que los Marlins no van a poderle ofrecer, y mas con todo el dinero que tienen invertido en la rotacion de abridores.  Que recibieron de los Tigres?  Jacob Turner esta considerado como uno de los mejores pitchers prospectos en el beisbol, y tiene solamente 21 años de edad.  Los Tigres se apuraron demasiado en subirlo a las grandes ligas esta temporada, pero la necesidad los forzo a hacer esa movida.  Todas las indicaciones son de que Turner va a ser enviado a AAA New Orleans por el momento, y que Wade LeBlanc va a remplazar a Anibal en la rotacion mientras tanto.  Los otros dos prospectos que los Marlins recibieron en el cambio son el catcher Rob Brantly and el pitcher zurdo Bryan Flynn.  Brantly es un receptor con mentalidad de bateador, batea para buen promedio, hace buen contacto, y no se poncha mucho.  Muy buen brazo, y ha demonstrado buen progreso mascoteando detras del plato.  Necesita un poco mas de tiempo para madurar, pero todo luce indicar que va a ser un catcher de grandes ligas.  Flynn tiene buen brazo, con una recta que consistentemente esta entre 94 y 95 millas por hora, y mide 6 pies 8 pulgadas de estatura.  Los Peces recibieron dos jugadores que van ha estar jugando en Miami antes de que termine esta temporada, y un buen prospecto para el futuro en Flynn.  Los Tigres dieron bastante por la estabilidad que les trae Infante en la segunda base, y dos meses de Anibal Sanchez.  Si Dios quiere, Turner y Brantly no se van a convertir en Andrew Miller y Mike Rabelo.  

Que mas van a hacer los Marlins antes del dia 31 de julio?  Primero, estan conversando y escuchando todas las ofertas que les traen por Hanley Ramirez.  Les puedo garantizar que los otros equipos estan buscando mango bajito y le estan diciendo a los Marlins que Hanley es un malcriado, le falta madurez, no da su maximo esfuerzo en el terreno de juego, y estan ofreciendole centavos por dolares.  Tambien estan insistiendo que Hanley ya no es un campo corto, y que tampoco es tercera base.  En mi opinion, si no reciben una buena cantidad de talento en cambio, estaran mejor en no cambiarlo por el momento.  (Guarden mi prediccion por el momento:  Los Marlins van a cambiar a Hanley a los Dodgers de Los Angeles.)  Los Peces tambien estan ofreciendo a Ricky Nolasco y a Carlos Zambrano.  Nolasco es una posibilidad a ser cambiado, pero su falta de consistencia y sus altas y sus bajas le restan valor.  Zambrano es Zambrano.  Los Marlins tambien estan dispuestos a cambiar al relevista Randy Choate, pero lo que van a recibir en un cambio no es nada.  Nadie con todas sus facultades le va a dar algo de valor a los Marlins por el relevista Heath Bell, a no ser que lo puedan agregar con alguien como Hanley a un equipo de la costa del Pacifico. Five straight losses for the Marlins to close out a six-game road trip that ended by being shut out in Pittsburgh yesterday, 3-0.  If you only score seven runs in five games, the chances are that you will lose those five games.  ONE hit with runners in scoring position in those five games for the Fish, who fall to a season-worst 7 games under 

.500 (44-51).  Ozzie Guillen is so frustrated that even he had nothing to say after yesterday’s loss.  We can probably stop wondering IF the Marlins will become sellers at the trade deadline, and contemplate on WHO is on their way out and who they can bring in.  Like I mentioned last week, these next 9 days will be very important to this underperforming franchise and could determine the future of Larry Beinfest and Mike Hill.  The Marlins return home to open a series against the Atlanta Braves tonight, and they will face the Braves seven times in their next eleven games.  Hanley Ramirez is still out with an infection in his hand and Giancarlo Stanton is recovering from knee surgery.  Josh Johnson takes the hill for the Marlins tonight. 

Marlins trade rumors still include Ramirez and yesterday’s hard-luck starter and loser Anibal Sanchez.  Why trade your most consistent starter this year?  Hanley’s rumored trade to Boston for Carl Crawford?  Why trade for a 31-year old injury prone outfielder with a huge contract?  Maybe we should analyze the situation and ask, “Why would Boston be so willing to trade Crawford and eat salary?”  Omar Infante is also a possibility, as the Detroit Tigers look to add a second baseman and possibly another starting pitcher.  

The team that just swept the Marlins, the Pittsburgh Pirates are one of the best stories in baseball this year.  They have won 16 out of their last 21, and are putting themselves in a great position to end a streak of 18 consecutive losing seasons.  

The New York Yankees got swept in a four-game series by the hottest team in baseball, the Oakland A’s, all four losses by a run.  The A’s erased a 4-0 lead yesterday, tying it in the ninth with a Seth Smith home run, and willing it in 12, 5-4.  Oakland is 14-2 in the month of June.  The Yankees still lead their division by six games over second-place Baltimore, but look out for the Orioles who have won five in a row.  The A’s are tied with the Orioles for the wild card, and are only half a game behind the Angels for second place behind the Texas Rangers, who lead the western division by 5 games.

The Detroit Tigers are also recovering nicely from their early season issues.  They swept the White Sox this weekend, and find themselves in first place in the central division, 1 1/2 games ahead of Chicago.  

In the National league, the Washington Nationals managed to split their four-game series with the Braves after losing the first two games of that series, including a game in which the Nats blew a 9-0 lead.  The Braves are 3 1/2 games behind Washington.  

Cincinnati and Pittsburgh are in a dogfight in the central division, with the Reds clinging to a half-game lead over the Pirates.  In the west, San Francisco has a 1 1/2 game advantage over the Los Angeles Dodgers.  are 44-48 and find themselves ten games behind the division-leading Washington Nationals.  

The Baseball Hall of Fame added two new members - Barry Larkin and Ron Santo.  Tim McCarver was enshrined for his broadcasting contribution, something that was long overdue.  As happens every year, I repeat . . Why aren’t Luis Tiant, Miguel Cuellar, Tony Oliva and Orestes Miñoso in Cooperstown?    

Jumping to college football, the University of Miami Hurricanes find themselves under a cloud of controversy after allegations of improper recruiting came out in a report by Yahoo! Sports.  Supposedly, there were some improper recruiting contacts by a former assistant equipment manager who ended up being fired for his involvement with jailed former booster Nevin Shapiro.  Canes coach Al Golden denied any wrongdoing in a statement he released, saying that he stands behind his impeccable record of compliance.

The NCAA is busy today, as they are expected to announce harsh sanctions against Penn State University, sanctions that reportedly will NOT include the death penalty.  I understand penalties against the university, but I do not see any benefit in penalizing student-athletes, present coaches, and fans for something that happened when they were not there.  Any fines or revenue generated by the university should all go to the abuse victims and families.

The Miami Dolphins and the rest of the teams in the NFL open their training camps on Friday.

The Marlins are 44-48 and find themselves ten games behind the division-leading Washington Nationals.  Ozzie Guillen is probably frustrated beyond anything he has ever been as a manager in the big leagues.  This team still has no identity and can’t stay out of it’s own way.  Yesterday’s 4-2  loss to a mediocre Chicago Cubs team punctuated all the Fish’s shortcomings once more.  If Carlos Lee doesn’t take second base in the ninth inning on defensive indifference and then score on a Greg Dobbs single, the team would have again pulled an o-fer with runners in scoring position - 0-8 on wednesday, and 1-7 yesterday.  They now travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates in a three game series this weekend.  The Pirates have been the surprise team in baseball this year, and have the best home record in the National League, 29-14.  

The nest couple of weeks should be very interesting around the major leagues as we approach the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline.  The heat is on Larry Beinfest and Mike Hill to make the right decisions for this team going forward.  After spending all that money this past off season, owner Jeffrey Loria cannot be pleased with these results.  I still believe that they are missing veteran leadership in that dugout and in that clubhouse, leadership that has to come from players.  The Marlins have still not established an identity as a team, and they are only resembling the new ballpark . . . a beautiful building with no heart and soul.  

In the rest of the national league yesterday, Edinson Volquez of the Padres threw a one-hit shutout against the Houston Astros.  The Cincinnati Reds got five runs batted in from Brandon Phillips and moved back into first place in the Central division with a 7-6 win over Arizona.  David Wright homered twice and the Mets broke a six game losing streak, beating the Nationals 9-5.  The Braves beat San Francisco 3-2 to avoid a sweep and now they go to Washington to face the Nationals in a four-game series.  Atlanta is 3 1/2 games behind Washington going into today. on keeping on.  

The Yankees went to Oakland and fell to the A’s 4-3.  Yoenis Cespedes clubbed a two-run homer in the win for the A’s, their first win over the Yankees in Oakland after nine straight losses.  The Yankees announced that outfielder Brett Gardner will have surgery on his elbow that will likely end his season.  Gardner played in only nine games this season.  

In the rest of the american league yesterday, David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays became first pitcher in the AL to reach 13 wins with a 6-0 win over Cleveland.  In Detroit, Miguel Cabrera hit his 21st homer and Detroit beat the Angels 5-1.  Jesus Montero homered and drove in four to lead Seattle to a 6-1 win over KC.  Felix Hernandez got the win to improve to 8-5 this year.  In Boston, Cody Ross hit a game-winning three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Red Sox a 3-1 win over the White Sox.    

In the NBA,  the agents are beginning to rear their ugly heads in the Dwight Howard and Andrew Bynum trade possibility.  The agent for Howard said that his client would not sign an extension and will test the free agent market after this coming season.  Meanwhile, Bynum’s agent said that any team that wants to trade for Bynum should talk to him first to gauge his interest in signing an extension or a long-term contract with them.  Both agents are also telling interested teams that Generalissimo Francisco Franco may not still be dead.  

The US Men’s olympic basketball team crushed Great Britain yesterday 118-78 in an exhibition game.  The two games left on the exhibition schedule for the Americans are going to be a lot more difficult as they prepare to face Argentina and Spain, both of those games in Barcelona.

Los Marlins estan 44-48 y se encuentran 10 juegos detras de los lideres de la division, los Washington Nationals.  Ozzie Guillen tiene que estar mas frustrado que en cualquier momento previo en su carrera como manager en las grandes ligas.  Este equipo no encuentra la forma de salir del hueco en que estan.  La derrota de ayer, 4-2 contra un equipo malisimo como los Chicago Cubs, demonstraron otra vez mas los problemas de los Peces.  Si Carlos Lee no toma la segunda base debido a indeferencia defensiva en el noveno inning para anotar en un hit de Greg Dobbs, terminaban de 0-15 en los ultimos dos juegos con corredores en posicion anotadora.   Ya estan en Pittsburgh para abrir una serie de tres juegos contra el equipo que tiene el mejor record en casa, 29-14, en la liga nacional.

En el resto de la liga americana ayer, David Price de los Tampa Bay Rays se convirtio en el primer pitcher en la liga americana en llegar a 13 victorias, venciendo a los Indios de Cleveland 6-0.  En Detroit, Miguel Cabrera conecto su jonron numero 21 de la temporada y los Tigres le ganaron a los Angelinos, 5-1.  Jesus Montero conecto larga distancia y remolco cuatro carreras para impulsar a Felix Hernandez y a los Seattle Mariners a una victoria de 6-1 sobre Kansas City.  En Boston, Cody Ross disparo un jonron con dos en base en la parte baja del noveno inning para terminar el juego y darle la victoria a las Medias Rojas sobre las Medias Blancas, 3-1.  

En la NBA, los agentes estan sacando sus respectivas cabezas de la tierra referente a las posibilidades de Dwight Howard y Andrew Bynum ser cambiados.  El agente de Howard dijo que su cliente no va a firmar una extension de contrato por ahora, y que se convertirar en agente libre despues de esta proxima temporada.  Mientras tanto, el agente de Bynum le advirtio a los equipos que tienen interes en su cliente que tienen que hablar con el antes de cualquier cambio para determinar si tendria interes en una extension o un contrato a largo plazo con el nuevo equipo.  Los dos agentes tambien les estan informando a los equipos interesados que existe la posibilidad que el Generalisimo Francisco Franco no este muerto totalmente.  

El equipo olimpico de basketball de los Americanos apabullo al equipo de Gran Bretaña ayer 118-78 en un juego de exhibicion.  Los dos juegos de exhibicion que le quedan a la version del 2012 del Dream Team prometen ser mucho mas dificiles, contra Argentina y España, ambos juegos seran en Barcelona.

The Marlins lost to the Chicago Cubs yesterday in a rain-shortened affair, 5-1.  The Cubbies scored 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh to break a 1-1 tie, and the the rain started coming down in the top of the eighth and the game was called at that point.  Jose Reyes homered for the only run and the Fish batters were 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position.  An afternoon game today at Wrigley Field, starting at 2:20.  Mark Buehrle will match up against Paul Maholm.  After today’s game, the Marlins travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates in a three game series this weekend.  

The Marlins joined the list of teams in the trade rumors category yesterday, after USA Today reported that the Fish and the Red Sox were discussing a possible deal that would send Hanley Ramirez and Heath Bell to Boston for Carl Crawford and a major league ready prospect.  A couple of things to look at here:  The Red Sox owe Crawford almost $32 million for 2013 and 2014 and Crawford just came back to the team after missing the first 89 games this year with an injury.  Unless Boston is willing to eat a lot of contract AND sweeten the pot with a couple of major league ready players, this is not a good deal for Miami.  Just an aside . . . if the Marlins trade Heath Bell, look for him to be dealt to the West Coast.  The Angels, perhaps?  They are looking for relief help, and they are dangling outfielder Peter Bourjos.

As I mentioned here a few days ago, the Detroit Tigers are very interested in Marlins second baseman Omar Infante, and they are also looking at starting pitching.  Anibal Sanchez may be a target for the Tigers, but, again, they would have to put together a package that would include Nick Castellanos in return, something they may not be willing to do.

By the way, the dance team formerly known as the Marlins Manatees, will be performing on Saturday at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg when the Tampa Bay Rays take on the Seattle Mariners at 7:00 pm.  Good for them!

The Yankees keep on keeping on.  They completed a sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday with a 6-0 shutout in a game that had to be called after the top of the seventh inning.  Hidoki Kuroda threw seven scoreless innings, giving up four hits, struck out 4, and didn’t walk a hitter.  Mark Teixeira clubbed a two-run homer in the first inning.  The Bombers have scored three runs or more in 42 consecutive games.  They take their show on the road to the West Coast, first to Oakland to take on the Braves this weekend, then off to Seattle, before going back to Yankee Stadium on July 27th to take on the Boston Red Sox.  

In the NBA,  the Lakers could be getting closer to obtaining Dwight Howard from the Orlando Magic in a trade that would include Andrew Bynum and a third team getting involved, but the Magic do not seem to be in a real hurry to seal the deal, as they try to get the best deal possible for their malcontent center.  ESPN is reporting that Howard would be willing to sign a long-term deal with the Lakers if he is traded.  Until a few days ago, Howard was willing to commit only to signing a long-term contract if he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets.  Sources in Los Angeles are also reporting that the Lakers have reached an agreement with high-scoring forward Antawn Jamison.  NBA commissioner David Stern piped in on another pressing issue, and announced that he is in agreement that Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.  

The Heat only have the $1.3 veteran’s minimum salary to offer, but they are seemingly very interested in center Darko Milicic, an amnesty release casualty, let go by the Minnesota Timberwolves.  There are a few teams interested that can offer more money, but Milicic has a guaranteed contract for next season that will pay him $5.2 million, courtesy of the T-Wolves.  If the Heat are able to entice Milicic to join them, it would give the team four of the first five players selected in the 2003 NBA draft:

2. Milicic
3. Carmelo Anthony
4. Chris Bosh
5. Dwayne Wade

Los Marlins perdieron contra los Chicago Cubs ayer, 5-1, en un juego que duro solamente siete innings debido a la lluvia.  Los Cubs anotaron cuatro carreras en la parte baja de la septima entrada para romper un empate de 1-1.  Un diluvio comenzo en el octavo, y decidieron cancelar el resto del partido.  Jose Reyes disparo un jonron para los Peces, que de nuevo, demonstraron que no tienen la menor idea de como batear con hombres en posicion anotadora.  Ayer se fueron de 8-0.  Hoy regresan al terreno del Wrigley Field a las 2:20 de la tarde.  Mark Buehrle contra Paul Maholm.  Despues del juego de hoy, el equipo sale rumbo a Pittsburgh, para enfrentarse a los Piratas este fin de semana en una serie de tres juegos.  

Los Peces se unieron a la lista de los equipos con rumores de cambios ayer, despues que el periodico USA Today reporto que los Marlins y las Medias Rojas de Boston estaban negociando un cambio en el que los Marlins enviarian a Hanley Ramirez y a Heath Bell a Boston por Carl Crawford y un prospecto listo ya para las grandes ligas.  Un par de observaciones:  Las Medias Rojas le deben mas de $32 millones a Crawford por las temporadas del 2013 y 2014 y Crawford acaba de integrarse al equipo despues de estar fuera los primeros 89 juegos de la temporada con una lesion.  A no ser que Boston le fuera a pagar el sueldo y mejorar la oferta a un par de prospectos listos para jugar en las grandes ligas, este cambio no fuera bueno para Miami.  Otra cosita . . . si los Marlins cambian a Bell, creo que va a ser a un equipo en la costa oeste, los Angelinos posiblemente, y ellos estan buscando ayuda para el bullpen y estan ofreciendo al jardinero Peter Bourjos.  

Como les mencione aqui hace unos dias, los Detroit Tigers siguen muy interesados en la segunda base Omar Infante, y tambien estan buscando agregar un pitcher abridor.  Anibal Sanchez pudiera ser de interes para ellos, pero, de nuevo, para que este cambio funcione para los Marlins, Detroit tuviera que incluir un grupo de prospectos excepcionales, incluyendo a Nick Castellanos, algo que ellos no han tenido interes en hacer.  

El grupo de baile anteriormente conocidos como los Marlins Manattess, van a estar presentandose y bailando este sabado en el Tropicana Field en St. Petersburg cuando los Tampa Bay Rays se enfrentan a los Seattle Mariners a las 7:00 pm.  Me alegro por ellos!

Los Yankees siguen haciendo lo que les da la gana.  Ayer Hidoki Kuroda tiro siete innings de escons y los Mulos blanquearon a los Toronto Blue Jays, 6-0, en un juego que fue suspendido en el septimo debido a un diluvio en la gran manzana.  Kuroda permitio cuatro hits, poncho a cinco, y no dio bases por bolas.  Mark Teixeira conecto larga distancia con un corredor a bordo en el primer inning.  Los Yankees estan en una racha de 42 juegos consecutivos en que han anotado tres carreras o mas.  Ya viajaron a Oakland, donde mañana comienzan una serie de tres juegos contra los Atleticos, y seguiran despues hacia Seattle, para enfrentarse a los Mariners.  Regresaran al Yankee Stadium el dia 27 del presente mes para una serie contra las Medias Rotas de Boston.  

En la NBA,  los Lakers de Los Angeles posiblemente se estan acercando a completar un cambio para obtener a Dwight Howard de los Orlando Magic, en un cambio  que incluiria a Andrew Bynum y un tercer equipo.  Los Magic, por su parte, no lucen tener mucho apuro en completar el cambio, mientras tratan de negociar el mejor cambio posible.  ESPN esta reportando que Howard esta dispuesto a firmar un contrato a largo plazo con los Lakers si lo cambian a Los Angeles.  Claro, que este personaje puede cambiar de opinion diez veces antes de que termine el dia de hoy.  Hasta hace unos dias, Howard estaba renuente a firmar con a largo plazo con un equipo que no fuera los Brooklyn Nets.  Fuentes en Los Angeles tambien estan reportando que los Lakers han llegado a un acuerdo con el delantero Antawn Jamison.  El comisionado de la NBA, David Stern, comento esta mañana que el esta de acuerdo con la teoria de que el Generalisimo Francisco Franco sigue muerto.    

Los Miami Heat, por su parte, tienen solamente el minimo de veterano de $1.3 millones para firmar a un jugador.  Asi y todo, estan interesados en el center Darko Milicic, una victima de amnestia, puesto en libertad por los Minnesota Timberwolves.  Hay varios equipos interesados que le pudieran pagar mas dinero a Milicic, pero todo luce indicar que el dinero no va a ser un factor, ya que Milicic tiene un contrato garantizado para el año que viene, que le pagara $5.2 millones, cortesia de los T-Wolves.  Si los Heat logran traer a Milicic al equipo, Miami tendria a cuatro de las primeras cinco selecciones del draft del 2003 en el equipo:

The Marlins need to play the Cubs more.  They beat the Cubbies for the fourth straight time this season, yesterday by a score of 9-5.  Homers by Omar Infante, Hanley Ramirez, and Carlos Lee.  Lee’s blast was a grand slam, his 17th grand slam in his career.  The only active player with more?  Alex Rodriguez, who has 23.  Nice bounce-back for Anibal Sanchez, who went seven innings and allowed two runs, only one of them earned.  He struck out seven and walked only two.  Series continues tonight with Josh Johnson taking the mound against Jeff Samardzija.  

CC Sabathia came back from the disabled list for the Yankees last night and looked good.  CC took a shutout into the seventh inning.  Andruw Jones hit a three-run homer in the 6-1 win.  Yankees have won 8 out of 10, and are 35-13 since May 22.  

The White Sox beat the Red Sox 7-5.  In 18 games since being traded to the White Sox from Boston, Kevin Youkilis is hitting .318, with 4 homers and 18 RBI.  White Sox still lead their division.  The American League wild card standings show us that eight teams are within two games of each other, including the last place Toronto Blue Jays.

Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers suffered a muscle strain in yesterday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals.  It is not known when he will be able to return.  

Although it changes every day, today’s most popular name in trade rumors is:

Ryan Dempster          The LA Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves look good as possible landing spots.

Among the teams that are out there looking for help:

New York Mets          The Mets have the worst bullpen in the major leagues, with a 4.96 ERA.  They have an interest 

                                 in KC Royals’ closer Jonathan Broxton.

Pittsburgh Pirates          They need a big bat.  Could this be where Justin Upton lands?

Detroit Tigers          Are looking for a front line starter.  The list of possibilities include Matt Garza, Cole Hamels, Zack 

                                 Greinke, and Wandy Rodriguez.  The Tigers would also love a second baseman.  If the Marlins 

                                 become sellers, Detroit really likes Omar Infante.  Toronto shortstop Yunel Escobar may also 

                                 be a potential target for them.

Cleveland Indians          Looking for an outfield bat.  Carlos Quentin, Alfonso Soriano, and Josh Willingham could be 

                                 their targets.  They would also love to add a starting pitcher.

In the NBA,  Dwight Howard is still property of the Orlando Magic, but they continue to have discussions with the Los Angeles Lakers, who came out of the darkness and are aggressively pursuing a trade to obtain the disgruntled center.  Both teams are denying that face-to-face discussions have taken place.  (That’s why SKYPE is so popular)  The Lakers and the Magic both agree that Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.  

It is official - Jeremy Lin is a Houston Rocket after the New York Knicks decided not to match the 3 year, $25 million contract that the Rockets offered the point guard.  Quite a turnaround, remembering that the Rockets cut Lin in December, before he ended up with the Knicks last season. 

In NFL news, no arrests yesterday.  Unusual, because, since the Super Bowl, a total of 25 NFL players have been arrested.  Training camps open next week, and the first preseason game is August 5th between the Arizona Cardinals and the New Orleans Saints.  

College football is also upon us, as all the conferences are having their annual kickoff meetings.  Talking FIU today, the Panthers are the favorites to win the Sun Belt Conference.  If everything goes as is should, and they roll through the conference and win a bowl game, this could be the year that a major university comes calling and makes FIU head coach Mario Cristobal an offer he cannot refuse.  We’ve heard this before, with Pittsburgh and Rutgers the last few years, but Mario has impressed everyone with his success and his work ethic here at FIU.  I don’t see FIU being able to match whatever a major program could offer Mario.

Los Marlins necesitan jugar mas contra los Cubs.  Anoche, vencieron a Chicago por la cuarta vez consecutiva esta temporada, ganando 9-5.  Omar Infante, Hanley Ramirez, y Carlos Lee todos conectaron larga distancia, el jonron de el caballo fue con las bases llenas.  Lee tiene 17 jonrones con las bases llenas en su carrera, y solamente hay un jugador activo en las grandes ligas en este momento con mas.  Quien es?  Alex Rodriguez, que tiene 23.  Buen juego anoche para Anibal Sanchez, que tiro siete innings, y permitio solamente dos carreras, una sola fue limpia.  Anibal poncho a siete y  dio dos bases por bolas.  Esta noche, Josh Johnson toma la lomita para los Peces contra Jeff Samardzija.  

CC Sabathia regreso de la lista de los lesionados anoche para los Yankees y lucio muy bien, llevando una lechada hasta el septimo inning.  Andruw Jones disparo un jonron con dos en base en la victoria de 6-1.  Los Yankees han ganado 8 de sus ultimos 10 juegos, y desde el 22 de mayo, tienen una marca de 35-13.    

Las Medias Blancas vencieron a las Medias Rotas anoche 7-5.  En 18 juegos desde que lo cambiaron de Boston a Chicago, Kevin Youkilis esta bateando .318, con cuatro jonrones y 18 carreras impulsadas. Las Medias Blancas siguen en primer lugar en su division.

En noticias de la NFL, ningun jugador fue arrestado ayer.  Eso es noticia, ya que desde el Super Bowl, 25 jugadores de la liga han sido arrestado.  Los campos de entrenamientio abren ya la semana que viene, y el primer juego de pretemporada es el proximo dia 5 de agosto, entre los Arizona Cardinals y los New Orleans Saints. 

El football ya esta al comenzar tambien, y ya todas las conferencias estan en sus reuniones para arrancar sus respectivas temporadas.  Florida International, FIU, eson los favoritos para ganar la conferencia del Sun Belt este año.  Si todo va como es debido, y la universidad de Westchester gana la conferencia y un juego de bowl, este pudiera ser el año en que una universidad de las grandes viene a tocarle las puertas al head coach Mario Cristobal y le hacen una oferta que el no va a poder rechazar.  Esta cancion es vieja, despues de oir a Pittsburgh y a Rutgers los ultimos años, pero Mario sigue impresionando a todos con el exito que ha logrado aqui y su etica de trabajo.  No creo que FIU tenga lo que hace falta ($$$) para mantener a Mario aqui en el sur de la Florida.
