I keep hearing that there’s a big football game on Sunday.  Most TV appliance stores, sports bars, and restaurants are advertising big sales and promotions for a “big game”, but they can’t refer to the Super Bowl by name.

For all of you, I bring you a digital copy of the Super Bowl 48 program you can download for your reading pleasure:

You think the weather has anything to do with the fact that Super Bowl ticket prices have plummeted this year?  Here’s the story from the New York Post:

Here’s one more reason why we all love Dan Marino:

The forecast for Miami that day - a high of 80, with a low of 68, with pretty much no chance of rain.  I believe they call that “Chamber of Commerce” weather

The betting line now has the Denver Broncos as a 2-point favorite.  My pick for this game (unless something drastic happens) is still Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.

Good article in the Miami Herald talking about Wes Welker.   That really turned out to be a great trade for the Dolphins, didn’t it?

If you're having a Super Bowl party of some sort, here’s a PDF form of a party prop bet sheet, courtesy of Bovada, to use in your party among your friends.  Print them up and pass them around to all your guests.  Remember . . . BETTING IS ILLEGAL AT BUSHWOOD, SIR.  This is for entertainment purposes only.  NO WAGERING, PLEASE.

TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  Only two players that played their college ball in Miami are on the rosters of the Broncos and the Seahawks, one on each team.  Who are they?  The answer comes later, alligator.

The Dolphins hired Dennis Hickey as their new General Manager:

MY TAKE:  Let’s hope that Mr. Hickey becomes the greatest General Manager in the history of the NFL.  Picking talent is still a crapshoot, and you will have hits and misses everywhere.  Regarding the Dolphins, I would still feel a LOT BETTER if all of these front office people and the head coach reported to a real football person, not owner Stephen Ross.

As I have said a number of times in recent blogs, the Fins should have done everything in their power to hire Dan Marino as the head football honcho.  He would now jump all over this and would more than relish the chance to do what his buddy John Elway has accomplished in Denver.

Here’s more on the Fins from Armando Salguero:

The Dolphins will play the AFC West and NFC North in addition to their usual AFC East opponents.

2014 Home schedule: Buffalo, New England, NY Jets, Kansas City, San Diego, Green Bay, Minnesota and Baltimore.

2014 Road schedule: Buffalo, New England, NY Jets, Denver, Chicago, Detroit, Oakland (in London), and Jacksonville.

Here is the 2014 draft order, according to ESPN.  There are coin flips pending and the final order will be determined by playoff results.  The only thing that is certain is that the Houston Texans are on the clock.

Mel Kiper and his hair bring us his first Mock Draft:

Of course, we can all continue to sleep at night, knowing full well that Aaron Hernandez remains in jail, where he belongs.

Let’s go to the Marlins and the rest of MLB:

Keith Law of ESPN ranks the minor-league systems of all 30 MLB teams:

MLB ok’s padded caps for pitchers

Jayson Starks of ESPN tells us that the pitchers that suffered fractured skulls after being hit in the head by batted balls will not use the caps.  Apparently they don’t look good:

In another in a long line of minor moves during another uneventful offseason, the Marlins signed Ty Wiggington to a minor-league contract:

Marlins’ pitchers and catchers report February 16th, position players arrive February 20th, and the spring training games begin February 26th, when the Fish play the University of Miami Hurricanes.  They will then play the FIU Panthers on the 27th.  Both of those games will be in Jupiter.

Here is the complete preseason schedule for the Fish:

Moving to the hardwood:

The Heat are on a mini-roll, with consecutive wins over the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs.  Tonight, they take on Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder at the AAA.
