The more you try to analyze baseball, the more you realize that it can’t be done. Stephen Strasburg and the first-place Washington Nationals took the field yesterday against the last-place Marlins and Ricky Nolasco. Strasburg went into the game with a 27-inning scoreless streak against the Fish, while Nolasco was 1-6 with a 6.70 ERA since the All-Star break. Of course, the Marlins pounded Strasburg and the Nats 9-0, and Nolasco tossed the first shutout for the Marlins at Marlins Park. Justin Ruggiano keeps on keeping on, with 4 hits and a homer. In other baseball news, Alex Rodriguez took batting practice yesterday for the first time, recovering from a broken hand suffered on July 24. The Yankees expect that A-Rod will be able to start a rehab assignment in the minor leagues this weekend. Andy Pettitte threw on flat ground yesterday, a good first step as he tries to come back from a broken ankle that has sidelined him since the 27th of June. The team is hoping that Pettitte can throw a bullpen session sometime this weekend. Mark Teixeira will probably be out about 10 days with a calf injury. Pitcher Ivan Nova, who is out with inflammation in the rotator cuff in his right shoulder, should be able to return mid-September. Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista will miss the remainder of the season due to the wrist injury that has sidelined him most of the season.
Major League Baseball will officially announce later this week that the 2014 All-Star game will be played in Minnesota. Next year’s game will be hosted by the New York Mets at Citi Field. With the rotating schedule for the game, the 2015 game will be either Washington or Miami. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

The Dolphins close out the preseason tonight in Dallas against the Cowboys. The game starts at 8:30 pm and will be televised in South Florida on Channel 33. Big night for a lot of players on the bubble as they cut down to 53 on the roster. Don’t be surprised if as many as 8-10 players on that final 53 man roster to start the season are on other team’s rosters today. All NFL teams have to cut the rosters to 53 players by Friday at 9pm. El equipo esta anticipando que Pettite va a tirar una sesion regular de bullpen este fin de semana. La primera base Mark Teixeira va a estar fuera unos diez dias con una lesion en la pantorrilla. El lanzador Ivan Nova, que esta en la lista de los lesionados con inflamacion en el hombro, probablemente pueda regresar a mediados del mes de septiembre. EL jardinero de los Toronto Blue Jays, Jose Bautista, va a estar fuera el resto de la temporada debido a una lesion en la muñeca que lo ha tenido fuera de accion la mayor parte de esta temporada.
El beisbol de las grandes ligas van a anunciar oficialmente esta semana que el juego de las estrellas del 2014 va a ser en Minnesota. El juego del año que viene sera en la casa de los New York Mets, Citi Field. Con el schedule que usan de un año en un parque de la liga americana, y un año en un parque de la nacional, el juego del 2015 va a ser o en Washington o aqui en Miami. Los Miami Dolphins cierran sus juegos de pretemporada esta noche en Dallas contra los Cowboys. El juego arranca a las 8:30 pm y sera televisado aqui en el sur de la Florida por el canal 33. Una noche bien importante para los jugadores que tienen sus trabajos en veremos. El roster esta en 75 jugadores, y tienen que rebajarlo a 53 el viernes a las 9:00 pm. No se sorprendan si, ademas de eso, los Dolphins agregan entre 8 y 10 jugadores que estan en otros equipos en estos momentos para comenzar la temporada.
