The Yankees are five games up in the AL East, but lost Andy Pettitte for at least six weeks with a broken ankle after getting hit with a line drive.  Yanks will be looking at Freddy Garcia for now, but don’t be surprised if they make a deal here in the next few weeks.  The Bombers have won 25 of their last 32 games.

Tim Lincecum won for the first time in almost two months, and the Giants are now tied with the Dodgers in first place in the NL west.  Melky Cabrera is having a MVP-type season so far in the city by the bay.

Down in Hot-Lanta, Braves closer Craig Kimbrel is dealing!  In his last 14 games: 14 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 24 strikeouts.  Cy Young?

Chase Utley returned to the Phillies lineup after missing the first 76 games of the season.  Utley homered on his first at bat and ended up with three hits, but the Phillies fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Ryan Howard begins a rehab assignment tonight and will probably be ready to return sometime after the All-Star break.

Giancarlo Stanton will be participating in the homerun hitting contest at the All-Star game in KC, and the Marlins celebrated by finally winning a game against the Cardinals after eight straight losses to the Birds.  June has not been kind to the Fish, who have gone 6-18 this month.  They are off today, and they open a series at Marlins Park tomorrow against the Phillies.  The two teams are tied for last place in the NL east.  

There will be a “Final Four” of some sort in NCAA football starting in 2014.  Finally we have a playoff format in football.  Although most people believe an 8-team format would have been better, this system is MUCH BETTER than the BCS now in place.  This will make college football more exciting in January.  

The Miami Dolphins are very satisfied with their quarterback situation after last week’s minicampm even they don’t have a clear-cut starter defined.  Matt Moore finished up last year by winning 6 out of the 9 games he started.  David Garrard is a former Pro Bowler and rookie first round draft pick Ryan Tannehill has all the potential in the world and can make all the throws in the new Dolphins offense.  Newly signed receiver Chad Ochocinco was probably the best receiver on the practice field last week.  Not very good news for the Fins and the rest of the receivers.   

Tonight is the NBA Draft.  Anthony Davis will be the number one pick by the New Orleans Hornets.  The Heat pick 27th, and even  though they would  love to see 7’0 center Fab Melo from Syracuse fall to them, that’s just wishing and hoping.  They will end up selecting whoever they think will best complement LeBron James.  Keep your eyes on these possibilities:  shooting guards John Jenkins from Vanderbilt, Doron Lamb from Kentucky, and Jared Cunningham from Oregon State.

Los Yankees tienen cinco juegos de ventaja en la division del este de la liga americana, pero ayer perdieron al pitcher abridor Andy Pettitte por lo menos por seis semanas con una fractura en el tobillo.  Freddy Garcia es la proxima opcion para los Yankees en la rotacion, pero no se sorprendan si tratan de hacer un cambio antes del 31 de julio.  Los Yankees han ganado 25 de sus ultimos 32 juegos.

Al fin, la NCAA tendra un sistema de playoffs para determinar el campeonato nacional.  Comenzando en el 2014, tendremos un formato de playoff con cuatro equipos, un “Final Four”.  Aunque muchos piensan que un formato de ocho equipos hubiera sido mejor, el nuevo sistema es MUCHO MEJOR de lo que tenemos en este momento.  

Los Miami Dolphins estan muy satisfechos con su situacion en la posicion de quarterback despues del minicamp de la semana pasada, aunque no tienen un titular determinado por el momento.  Matt Moore termino la campaña pasada ganando 6 de sus nueve juegos como abridor, David Garrard ha jugado en el Pro Bowl, y el novato y primera seleccion del equipo Ryan Tannehill tienen todo el potencial del mundo y luce muy bien en el nuevo sistema ofensivo del equipo.  El recien adquirido recibidor Chad Ochocinco probablemente fue el mejor recibidor en el minicamp la semana pasada, pero eso no es buena noticia para los Fins y el resto de los recibidores.  

Esta noche es el draft de la NBA, y los New Orleans Hornets usaran la primera seleccion para agregar a Anthony Davis a su equipo.  Los Heat seleccionan numero 27 en el primer round, y aunque quisieran ver al centro de 7 pies Fab Melo, no creo que este disponible.  Vigilen estos nombres:  los armadores John Jenkins de Vanderbilt, Doron Lamb de Kentucky, y Jared Cunningham de Oregon State, todos francos tiradores de afuera.
