The baseball hot stove is officially now heating up. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim made a big splash in their battle for Los Angeles and signed free agent outfielder Josh Hamilton to a 5-year, $125 million deal. They may be keeping up with the Dodgers, but I give you my first prediction for next year - - - the Angels and Dodgers will NOT meet in the World Series. The Yankees and Ichiro Suzuki agreed to a two-year contract, and Anibal Sanchez played his cards right and took it right to the end with the Chicago Cubs and the Detroit Tigers. Anibal signs with the Tigers, 5 years, $80 million. Maybe there is a clause in his contract that forces people to pronounce his name correctly. It is pronounced Ah-KNEE-bal, not AH-nee-bal.
It still bears repeating:
Dear Santa Claus Jeffrey Loria and minions:
Why haven’t you announced that you are selling the team? What are you waiting for, Christmas? Your inept management allowed the Marlins farm system to deteriorate to the point of being horrible, and have dismantled the major league roster while pissing off the players on the roster and the entire South Florida community. Sell the team so we can enjoy baseball in Miami again.
You will soon have the window of opportunity you need to get out of town. The five-year anniversary of the Marlins and Miami-Dade County agreement for the baseball stadium is coming up on February 21, 2013. After that time, the “penalty” for selling the team is only 5%, a mere pittance, based on a $250 million value of the team.
We’re just going to keep our fingers crossed and light a candle in the meantime.
Today’s article of the day comes from Juan C. Rodriguez of the Sun Sentinel. Good to have you back, Juan. Check it out here:

Last night in the NFL, the Cincinnati Bengals erased a 13-10 halftime deficit, scoring 24 unanswered points to defeat the hapless Philadelphia Eagles 34-13. BenJarvus Green-Ellis had 25 carries for 106 yards and a TD. The Bengals have won 5 of 6 and are now 1/2 game ahead of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the race for the sixth and final playoff spot in the AFC. The Bengals face the Steelers next Sunday in Pittsburgh.
The Miami Dolphins return to the field at the Seven-Names Stadium on Sunday to play the Jacksonville Jaguars. Miami is favored by 7 points over the Jaguars. Since 2007, the Fins have been a favorite by more than 6 points a total of six times. They are 3-3 overall, but 0-6 against the spread. Govern yourselves accordingly. There will be a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the 1972 Perfect Season at the stadium. Most of the players from that undefeated team will be there.
TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION: We continue highlighting the Miami Dolphins 1972 Perfect Season. Who were the defensive starters on the “No-Name Defense” that year? Tell you later, alligator.

THE ANSWER TO TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION: We continue highlighting the Miami Dolphins 1972 Perfect Season. Who were the defensive starters on the “No-Name Defense” that year? On the defensive line, Bill Stanfill, Manny Fernandez, Bob Heinz, and Vern Den Herder. The linebackers were Doug Swift, Nick Buoniconti, and Mike Kolen. The defensive backs - Tim Foley, Curtis Johnson, Dick Anderson, and Jake Scott. We have to include Bob Matheson, the number 53 in the “53 defense”, who lined up as a linebacker but rushed the passer in what was the first 3-4 defense in the NFL.
