The Miami Heat got 24 points from Dwayne Wade and 22 points from LeBron James to beat the stubborn Minnesota Timberwolves 103-92. Minnesota out-rebounded Miami by a lopsided 52-24 but it wasn’t enough to derail the Heat. Chris Bosh added 15 points and Mario Chalmers piped in with 12. LeBron has scored more than 20 points in 27 straight regular season games, 43 games overall, including postseason. The Heat travel to Dallas for a game tomorrow night against the Mavericks, and return home to take on the Utah Jazz on Saturday at the AAA.

The Miami Dolphins return to the practice field today in preparation for this week’s game against the Buffalo Bills at the Seven Names Stadium with a VERY, VERY, VERY SLIM possibility of reaching the playoffs, even though the scenario doesn’t look good. At 6-8, the Fins would have to win their final two games, at home against the Bills this Sunday, and then at New England against the Patriots the following Sunday. Should that very improbable situation present itself, Miami would need the Cincinnati Bengals to lose their two final games, to the Pittsburgh Steelers and to the Baltimore Ravens. They also need for Pittsburgh to lose to the Cleveland Browns, and the Jets need to lose one more game to avoid a four-way tie at 8-8, where they would not win a tiebreaker. It just isn’t going to happen. Game time on Sunday against the Bills is at 1pm at the Seven Names Stadium.

In baseball, I’m hearing that the Marlins and the Angels could be in conversations that could involve Ricky Nolasco and Mark Trumbo. A little less than a month ago, I told you in this blog that the Yankees are lurking. My sources continue to tell me that is still a distinct possibility. Nolasco? Stanton? Another sad rumor is that the Fish are actually considering Miguel Tejada, who they've been scouting in the Dominican Winter League, to play third base.
No news is usually good news, however......
What is FIU’s athletic director waiting for after the untimely firing of head coach Mario Cristobal? What was behind the firing?
Is UM coach Al Golden staying after the NCAA hammer falls?
Is NHL hockey ever coming back?
Is Jeffrey Loria going to sell the Marlins? Once again..........
Dear Santa Claus Jeffrey Loria and minions:
Why haven’t you sold the team? What are you waiting for, Christmas? The New Year? Your inept management allowed the Marlins farm system to deteriorate to the point of being horrible, and have dismantled the major league roster while pissing off the players on the roster and the entire South Florida community. You allow your management to continue the policy of “sell low and buy high”. Sell the team so we can enjoy baseball in Miami again.
You will soon have the window of opportunity you need to get out of town. The five-year anniversary of the Marlins and Miami-Dade County agreement for the baseball stadium is coming up on February 21, 2013. After that time, the “penalty” for selling the team is only 5%, a mere pittance, based on a $250 million value of the team.
We’ll continue to keep our fingers crossed and light a candle in the meantime.

THE ANSWER TO TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION: This is the 25-year anniversary of the Miami Heat franchise. Who led the team in scoring the first season? Guard Kevin Edwards, who played his college ball at DePaul University, led the 88-89 Heat with a 13.9 ppg scoring average. Point guard Rory Sparrow averaged 12.5 ppg, forward Grant Long scored 11.9 ppg, center Rony Seikaly averaged 10.9, forward Billy Thompson 10.8 ppg, and sharpshooting guard Jon Sundvold scored at a 10.4 ppg clip. Again, has it really been 25 years?
