The Heat get back at it tonight, in Atlanta, as they take on the Hawks.  The Heat’s “second half” of the regular season will consist of 32 games in just under two months.  The team is relatively healthy, and Udonis Haslem will be back in the starting lineup, back from his recent leg injury.  Miami has beaten the Hawks both times they played this season, 95-89 in Atlanta on November 9th, and 101-92 in Miami on December 10th.  The NBA’s trade deadline is tomorrow, and there are rumors that the Hawks are looking to trade forward Josh Smith.  BTW, the Heat love this guy.  Immediately after tonight’s game, the Heat are off to Chicago to take on the Bulls tomorrow night, and will square off against the Philadelphia 76ers in Philly on Saturday.  The team returns home to play the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday evening at the AAA.

Last night in the NBA,

Toronto 96 Washington 88
Rudy Gay led the way with 24 points and eight rebounds.  Since trading for Gay, the Raptors have won six out of eight games.

Charlotte 105 Orlando 92
Gerald Henderson and Kemba Walker each scored 24 points.

Brooklyn 113 Milwaukee 111  (OT)
Josh Johnson was the man last night.  He tied the game with a tough 3-point shot to force overtime, and drained the game-winning basket as time expired.

Memphis 105 Detroit 91
Mike Conley scored 19 points, Zack Randolph had 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Chicago 96 New Orleans 87
Luol Deng had 20 points, Joakim Noah added 15 points and  pulled down 17 rebounds.

Denver 97         Boston 90
Danilo Gallinari and Ty Lawson led Denver with 26 points each.

Utah 115 Golden State 101
Al Jefferson led seven Utah players in double figures with 24 points.

San Antonio 108 Sacramento  102
Tony Parker led the way with 30 points and 11 assists.

Goran Dragic scored 16 points and dished out 18 assists.

Moving over to college hoops, the University of Miami Hurricanes needed some last second heroics, but managed to beat a stubborn Virginia team, 54-50.  Reggie Johnson scored the tie-breaking basket with 5.7 seconds left and Durand Scott added two free throws after a steal on the inbound pass to clinch the win.  Miami improved to 22-3 and remain unbeaten in ACC play at 13-0.  The Canes will remain the #2 team in the country, behind Indiana, who posted a last-minute, come-from-behind win over #4 ranked Michigan State, 72-68.  Next game for the Canes is at Wake Forest on Saturday.
FIU hosts Arkansas-Little Rock at the US Century Bank Arena tomorrow night, and will travel to Louisiana-Monroe to take on the Warhawks the following Thursday.

In college baseball, Miami will be back in action tonight at Boca Raton against FAU in Boca Raton, and will host Milwaukee this weekend at the Light.  FIU plays at Bethune Cookman this afternoon, and will host Manhattan for three games this weekend.

The University of Miami FINALLY received the notice of allegations from the NCAA yesterday.  Here is the latest from Yahoo! Sports:

Jorge Milian from the Palm Beach Post brings us his take on the situation:

Here is the complete text of UM President Donna Shalala’s response to the NCAA allegations:

Spring Training is here!  I will be bringing you analysis of all 30 teams over the next three weeks.  One team from each league every day, in alphabetical order.  Today, may I present to you the Milwaukee Brewers and the Los Angeles Angels.

MILWAUKEE BREWERS   83-79 Mgr. Ron Roenicke

The Brew Crew is going to need for some of their young starting pitchers to come through, behind Yovani Gallardo.  Their bullpen got a boost by adding Mike Gonzalez, Tom Gorzelanny, and Burke Badenhop in front of closer John Axelrod.  Ryan Braun will again be asked to carry this team, again with a cloud of allegations of PED use hanging over his head.

LOS ANGELES ANGELS 89-73 Mgr. Mike Scoscia

The  Angels keep trying to catch up to the Texas Rangers in the AL West, this year they signed former Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton, who joins a formidable lineup that includes Mike Trout, Alberto Pujols, and Mark Trumbo.  The Angels did some shuffling on their pitching staff, as they lost Zack Greinke and got rid of Dan Haren and Ervin Santana.  They added Tommy Hanson, Joe Blanton, and Jason Vargas to round out the starting rotation, headed by Jered Weaver and CJ Wilson.

Tomorrow:  The New York Mets and Minnesota Twins.

TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  The Atlanta Braves will retire Chipper Jones’ number later this season.  What other former Braves have also had their numbers retired?  Tell you later, Alligator.

ESPN reports that there are five additional names of players linked to the South Florida clinic dispensing PED’s.  However, one name previously mentioned, Gio Gonzalez, did not receive any banned substances from that clinic:

David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the Braves will be retiring Chipper Jones’ number this season:

Here’s the answer to today’s question:  The Atlanta Braves will retire Chipper Jones’ number later this season.  What other former Braves have also had their numbers retired?

Hank Aaron, Dale Murphy, Eddie Matthews, Phil Niekro, Warren Spahn, Tom Glavine, John Smoltz, and Bobby Cox.
