In baseball, the MLB awards conclude today with the MVP trophies handed out in both leagues.

In the MLB awards front, the winners of the AL and NL Cy Young awards are in.  I hate to say I told you so, but:

TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  Before Clayton Kershaw’s two Cy Young awards, who was the last Dodger to win the award?  The answer comes later, alligator.

Today, the MVP winners will take center stage.

MY TAKE:  The MVP in the American League is, without a doubt in my mind, Miguel Cabrera.  The National League is a little more cloudy.  If I had a vote, it would have gone to Arizona 1B Paul Goldschmidt.  The winner, however, will most probably be Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen.  The Pirates made the playoffs, the D-Backs watched the postseason games on TV.

Lots of good stuff going onThe GM/Owners meetings in Orlando, as teams lay the groundwork for possible trades and free agent signings.

Fox Sports has some more gossip:

In other baseball news, sometimes I wish Scott Boras would go away and disappear into the night.

Speaking of going away . . . . .

Dustin Pedroia is in the news

Free agents on the move:

Let’s go to the NFL and the Dolphins:

PLEASE NOTE:  I will refrain from any more Incognito / Martin babble until something newsworthy happens.

The Dolphins host the San Diego Chargers on Sunday at the Seven Names Stadium.  Game time is 4:05 pm.

From Dolphins headquarters:

Why does it take all of preseason and the first nine games to figure out what book you’re reading?

More from Armando Salguero:

Record so far this season on my picks is 32-34-4 against the spread, and 41-29 straight up.

Here is this week’s NFL schedule, with today’s selection of the Thursday night game.  I’ll have the rest of my picks tomorrow, as usual:

THURSDAY

Indianapolis @ Tennessee +3 8:30 pm NFL NETWORK

The Colts laid an egg last week against the Rams, losing 38-8.  Andrew Luck threw three interceptions and the Colts turned the ball over a total of five times, and only ran for 18 total yards, 17 of them by Luck.  Those are Dolphin-like numbers.  I don’t see this repeating itself this week in Tennessee.  The Titans lost starting QB Jake Locker to a foot injury, and will have former Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick at the helm.  The Titans have lost three games in a row at home and four out of their last five contests overall.  I’ll cautiously take the Colts and give the three points on the road.

Of course, we can all continue to sleep at night, knowing full well that Aaron Hernandez remains in jail, where he belongs.

In college football, the University of Miami will try and recover from two straight blowout losses that have dropped them almost out of the top-25 rankings as they visit Duke this Saturday.  Game time against the Blue Devils is 3:30 pm, and it will be televised by ESPN-U.

THE ANSWER TO TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  Before Clayton Kershaw’s two Cy Young awards, who was the last Dodger to win the award?

Closer Eric Gagne won the Cy Young in 2003.  The last Dodger starting pitcher to take home the Cy Young was Orel Hershiser in 1988.

Behave yourselves, and always remember that tomorrow will bring us a brand new day.
