In last night’s MNF game, the Carolina Panthers made it six wins in a row, scratching out a hard-earned 24-20 win over the New England Patriots.  A controversial non-call on the last play of the game in which a penalty flag was thrown in the end zone against Carolina for pass interference ended the game.

MY TAKE:  Any time the Pats lose a game, it’s probably a good thing.  However, if an official throws a flag for a CLEAR pass interference infraction, you can’t just pick up the flag an say that there was no penalty.  The penalty would have given the Patriots one more play at the one-yard line, thus giving them an opportunity to win the game.  In my opinion, a bad call by the officials.  I don’t really care what “spin” they try to put on it, it was a bad “non-call”.  What explanation do you really expect to hear from a former NFL official other than defending the on-field referees?  You can see for yourselves here:

PLEASE NOTE:  I will continue to refrain from any Incognito / Martin babble until something newsworthy happens.

The Dolphins are back to work this week as they prepare to take on the Panthers at the Seven Names Stadium on Sunday.  Here’s more on the Dolphins:

More from Armando Salguero:

Here are this week’s NFL game, along with the early lines.  I finished 4-3 last week, and still under the .500 mark.  I’ll try and take care of that this coming week.   Record this season on my picks is 36-37-4 against the spread, and 44-33 straight up.

Of course, we can all continue to sleep at night, knowing full well that Aaron Hernandez remains in jail, where he belongs.

In college football, the University of Miami Hurricanes have lost three in a row, and in those three losses, their non-existent defense has given up 1,609 yards and 131 points.  Regardless of that, there are still high hopes for the Canes as they look forward to playing in their first bowl game in three years.  Here are some of the options that should be there for them:

Manny Navarro and Susan Miller Degnan have more from Coral Gables:

The Canes take on Virginia this Saturday at 12 noon, back home at the Seven Names Stadium.  Virginia is 2-8 this season, and 0-6 in the ACC.  The Cavaliers could be exactly what the doctor ordered for the Canes, or could be the nail in the coffin for this season.  Virginia is 109th in the country in points scored this season.  You can watch the game on ESPN-U.

The Canes will close out their season on Friday, November 29th, in Pittsburgh, against the Pitt Panthers.

The FIU Panthers are now 1-9 this season, and will take on the Thundering Herd of Marshall at FIU Stadium this  Saturday, at 6:00 pm.  No TV or radio.

The Panthers mercifully close out their season in Boca Raton on Friday, the 29th, in their annual crosstown battle against Florida Atlantic.  That game will be televised on Fox Sports 1 on your cable or satellite system.

Moving to the hardwood,

The Heat return to the court tonight at the AAA, as they take on the Atlanta Hawks in the first of four regular season games against Atlanta.  Miami has won seven of the last eight games against the Hawks, including a sweep of last year’s season series.  Game time tonight is 7:30 pm, and you can watch it on Sun Sports.  Tomorrow night, the Heat will be in Orlando to take on the Magic, and will be back at the AAA on Saturday to host the Magic.

TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  Tim Hudson leaves Atlanta with 113 wins, the fifth-highest win total in franchise history.  Who are the top four?  The answer comes later, alligator.

Mets and Robinson Cano?

Yankees may be looking to bring back Raul Ibañez and also have an interest in Jhonny Peralta

A-Roid - MLB battle back in full swing in New York:

On the NHL ice, George Richards has all the latest on the Panthers, as they continue on the road to take on the Vancouver Canucks tomorrow night, the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday, and the Calgary Flames on Friday night.  The team returns home to take on the Philadelphia Flyers next Monday.

Here is Santos Perez’ weekly boxing spotlight column from the Miami Herald:

PERSONAL QUESTION:  Can someone please explain to me why the Miami Herald Sports Department has a “PRO WRESTLING EDITOR” (Jim Varsallone)?  Hasn’t the Herald figured out that Pro Wrestling is only entertainment, and not a real competition sport?  Do they also have “SANTA CLAUS, EASTER BUNNY, AND TOOTH FAIRY EDITORS?

I enjoy watching professional wrestling, and I agree that wrestlers are tremendous athletes, but the fights are staged and the results are preplanned.  The Herald needs to step it up when it comes to their boxing coverage.  Their boxing coverage is pathetic, and they're totally underutilizing one of the most talented boxing writers in the industry in Santos Perez.  C’mon, Herald!  Get with the program!

THE ANSWER TO TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  Tim Hudson leaves Atlanta with 113 wins, the fifth-highest win total in Atlanta history.  Who are the top four?

Phil Niekro (266), Tom Glavine (244), John Smoltz (210), and Greg Maddux (194).  These number are just in Atlanta.  The all-time leader in wins for the Braves is Warren Spahn, who won 356 games for them in Boston and Milwaukee from 1946 to 1964.

Behave yourselves, and always remember that tomorrow will bring us a brand new day.
