The Heat return to the court tonight at the AAA to take on the Orlando Magic.  This is the second game between these two teams this season, and Miami narrowly escaped Orlando with a 112-110 overtime victory back on New Year’s Eve.  Miami, of course, has won 15 in a row, while the Magic have been awful, winning just five of their last 36 games.  The Heat cannot afford to let down their guard for this game.  Miami will go up against Philadelphia on Friday, and they will face the tough Indiana Pacers on Sunday.

In the NBA yesterday,

Boston 109 Philadelphia 101
Avery Bradley had 22 points, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce each scored 18 in the win.

Oklahoma City 122 LA Lakers 105
Russell Westbrook was on fire, with 37 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists.  Kevin Durant finished with 26 points.

Denver 120 Sacramento 113
Ty Lawson had 24 points, Danilo Gallinari chipped in with 23.

In college hoops, the #6 University of Miami Hurricanes can clinch the ACC Conference championship with a win tonight over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets here at home at the BankUnited Center.  Miami comes into the game with a 23-5 record, 14-2 in the ACC.  They will probably also move back into the top five with a win, as #2 Indiana lost at home to Ohio State last night, 67-58.

The FIU Panthers head to Hot Springs, Arkansas, to take part in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, where they are the #4 seed.  They will play Arkansas-Little Rock, the #5 seed, on Saturday, March 9 at 8:00 pm.

TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  I know last year was a long time ago, but who won the NCAA basketball championship in 2012? Tell you later, alligator.

In college baseball, the University of Miami defeated the University of Maine yesterday, 6-2.  The Canes are now 11-2, and will take on Central Florida tonight at Mark Light.  First pitch is 6:00 pm. Miami will then host Duke this weekend for a three-game series.  Meanwhile, FIU will next take on Stetson up in Deland, FL tonight.  It gets even harder next weekend when perennial powerhouse Rice comes in for a visit.

In Major League exhibition baseball yesterday, the Marlins beat the Venezuelan team that will participate in the World Baseball Classic by the score of 6-5.  Chris Coghlan had four hits, Bryan Petersen drove in two runs in the ninth with a triple to give the Marlins the win.  Juan Pierre drove in two runs with a double.  The Fish take on the Cardinals today at 1:05 up in Jupiter.

Congratulations to the Marlins and MLB for not caving in to the request for a moment of silence before the game yesterday to honor the dead Venezuelan tyrant, Hugo Chavez.  Also, isn’t it ironic, while appropriate and mildly amusing, that Chavez kicked the bucket and began his journey to hell on the same date that Joseph Stalin started his trip to the nether region?

Here are all the scores from yesterday’s spring training games.  You can “click” on the box scores and the recap under each individual game’s line score.

The World Baseball Classic is off and running.  Cuba defeated Japan this morning by the score of 6-3.  Yasmany Tomas & Alfredo Despaigne connected long distance.

Here is MLB.com’s coverage of the classic:

The golf world’s attention is centered on Doral this weekend, as the WGC-Cadillac Championship is played at the Doral Golf Resort.  FoxSports.com has the AP story on Donald Trump, who just bought the resort, and is going to be renovating the golf course right after the tournament:

THE ANSWER TO TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  I know last year was a long time ago, but who won the NCAA basketball championship in 2012?

The University of Kentucky, coached by John Calipari, beat Kansas in the championship game, 67-59.
