Break up the Marlins!  The Fish made it three wins in a row last night, coming back again in their last at bat to beat the Metropolitans, this time 2-1.  They didn’t need extra innings yesterday, but they went into the bottom of the ninth trailing 1-0.  Chris Coghlan opened the inning with a single, and advanced to second on a passed ball.  Juan Pierre laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Coghlan just barely beat the throw to third, although the replays showed he may have had his foot off the bag.  Nevertheless, with runners on the corners, Donovan Solano singled to drive in the tying run and, after an intentional walk to Placido Polanco, Pierre scored easily on a wild pitch, and that was the ball game.  Kevin Slowey was outstanding again, tossing eight shutout innings to lower his ERA to 2.15, although he is still winless this season.  The Marlins have only scored eight total runs in his six starts.  It is very hard to win with that kind of run support.  The Marlins close out their series against the Metropolitans this afternoon, at 12:40 at Marlins Park. Wade LeBlanc will start on the hill for the Fish, and the Mets will counter with Dillon Gee.

The Marlins had to put the Man-Child, Giancarlo Stanton on the DL with a strained hamstring.  Look for him to be out a month.  The Fish recalled OF Marcell Ozuna to replace him.  I talked to a ML scout a few weeks ago who told me that he felt Ozuna was going to be even better than Christian Yelich.  He told me Ozuna has all the tools to be a very productive player in the major leagues.  The 22-year-old will get his chance.

Dave George from the Palm Beach Post has some more stuff on Ozuna:

The Fish are still bringing up the rear in MLB in runs scored, with a grand total of 73 runs in their first 27 games.  I will be posting the “bottom five” rankings in runs scored until the Marlins aren’t on the list.  At this point, I am not very optimistic about this list not being a permanent part of this blog.

TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  More home run trivia. Jurickson Profar of the Texas Rangers and former UM star Eddy Rodriguez of the San Diego Padres are the last two players to connect long distance in their first at bat in the major leagues.  Only two players in ML history have hit home runs in their first TWO at bats.  Who are they?  Tell you later, alligator.

Just a personal note . . . . Mariano Rivera recorded his 10th save of the season last night.  Can we start a letter-writing campaign to try and convince him not to retire?

Tim Hudson of the Braves won his 200th game last night.  David Schoenfield of ESPN.com gives us his thoughts on Hudson possibly being headed to the Hall of Fame:

In 1951, Bob Nieman of the St. Louis Browns connected in his first two at bats in the majors in the same game.  In 2000, Keith McDonald also did it, although it was in two games.
