The 2012 Olympics are off and running.  As we head into day 3, China and the United States lead in the medal race.  The Chinese have won six gold medals, four silver, and two bronze, a total of twelve.  The Americans have collected a total of eleven medals - three gold, five silver, and three bronze.  Kimberly Rhode collected a gold for the US in Women’s Skeet Shooting, while the swimmers have done pretty well.  Dana Vollmer won in the Women’s 100 meter butterfly, and Cuban-American Ryan Lochte won the 400 meter individual medley.  Elizabeth Beisel and Allison Smith earned silver medals in the 400 meter individual medley and the 400 meter freestyle, respectively, while the men’s 4 x 100 meter relay team were beaten by the French and ended up with the silver medal.  

The women’s and men’s basketball teams won their first games.  The US ladies beat Croatia 81-56 and the 2012 edition of the Dream Team got past France 98-71.  In other men’s scores, Argentina won over Lithuania 102-79, and Spain beat China, 97-81.  Today on television, Telemundo will cover various events between 9AM and 3PM, and NBC, Channel 6 in Miami, will be on from 10AM to 5PM, with live coverage including of Women’s volleyball, swimming, water polo, and Men’s beach volleyball, and again starting at 8PM with their prime time coverage.  NBC Sports Chanel, MSNBC, CNBC, Bravo, and the Soccer and Basketball Channels will also be airing live coverage during the day.  Check out the details on your cable or satellite system.

The Miami Dolphins opened their training camp on friday, and on saturday, the team reached a contract agreement with their first round draft pick, Quarterback Ryan Tannehill.  Tannehill was quite impressive in his first practice on Sunday, and offensive coordinator Mike Sherman said that Tannehill was way ahead of where he thought he would be and that Tannehill has made a lot of progress since the practices back in June.  

The Marlins lost the series opener against the San Diego Padres on Friday, but rebounded nicely with wins on Saturday and Sunday.  Nathen Eovaldi won in his debut with the Fish on Saturday, ahd Justin Ruggiano was the hero yesterday with a walk-off run scoring single in the tenth inning.  The Marlins are in Atlanta, where they open up a four game series against the Braves.  The pitching matchups for the series, starting tonight, Mark Buehrle vs. Tommy Hanson; Ricky Nolasco vs. Kris Medlen on Tuesday, Carlos Zambrano vs. Ben Sheets on Wednesday, and Nathan Eovaldi will match up against Mike Minor on Thursday.  All four games against Atlanta start at 7:10 pm.

The Fish placed left fielder Logan Morrison on the 15 day disabled list, but his return this season is up in the air.  Morrison indicated he wants to return in two weeks, but his knee issues could require season-ending surgery.  Manager Ozzie Guillen was not pleased with this situation.  “In the past, they do stupid [expletive] here,” Guillen told The Miami Herald and Palm Beach Post on Sunday. “They let him go to Asia and play and have his surgery knowing spring training is coming up. It isn’t going to happen again. I think it’s more important, the Miami Marlins, than the USA team, or whatever he was doing. I think they knew he had this problem during [last season]. I’m not going to blame anyone, but think about it. There’s a lot of [expletive] we’ve got to clean up, and that’s my job.”  

It is going to get very busy today as we inch closer to the 4pm trade deadline on Tuesday.  I talked about Phillies right fielder Hunter Pence on Friday, and how much I would love to see him in a Marlins uniform.  Sources tell me that the San Francisco Giants and the Phillies are very close to making a deal.  After getting swept by the Atlanta Braves this weekend, look for the Phillies to become very active sellers.

Las Olimpiadas del 2012 estan viento en popa y a toda vela.  Entrando al tercer dia, China y los Estados Unidos estan alante en el conteo de medallas.  Los Chinos tienen seis medallas de oro, cuatro de plata, y dos de bronce, un total de 12.  Mientras tanto, los Americanos tienen un total de once medallas - tres de oro, cinco de plata, y tres de bronce.   Kimberly Rhode gano una medalla de oro en  la competencia de tiro al blanco (skeet). En natacion, Dana Vollmer gano el evento de 100 metros (mariposa), y el Cubano-Americano Ryan Lochte triunfo en los 400 metros de cuatro estilos individuales.   Siguiendo en la piscina, Elizabeth Beisel y Allison Smith ganaron medallas de oro en los 400 metros de cuatro estilos individuales y los 400 metros estilo libre, respectivamente.  El equipo de los hombres de relevo 4 x 100 metros estilo libre, perdio contra Francia y terminaron con la medalla de plata. 

En el basketball, los equipos de las mujeres y los hombres de Estados Unidos ganaron sus primeros juegos.  Las mujeres apabullaron a Croacia, 81-56, y los hombres triunfaron sobre los Franceses por 27 puntos, 98-71.  En otros resultados en el basketball de los hombres, Argentina le gano a Lituania, 102-79, y España supero a China, 97-81.  

Hoy por television, Telemundo ofrece su cobertura de variados eventos en vivo entre las 9 de la mañana y las tres de la tarde.  El canal 6, NBC, estara televisando de 10 de la mañana a 5 de la tarde, y estaran cubriendo, en vivo, Volleyball de mujeres, natacion, polo, y volleyball de playa de los hombres.  El canal 6 regresa de 8 a 12 de la noche con su cobertura estelar.  Los otros canales de la cadena - NBC Sparts Channel, MSNBC, CNBC, Bravo, y los canales de Basketball y Soccer estaran televisando en vivo durante el dia.  Busquenlos en su sistema de cable o satelite.  

Los Miami Dolphins abrieron su campo de entrenamiento este viernes que paso, y el sabado, el equipo llego a un acuerdo en un contrato con su primera seleccion del draft universitario, el quarterback Ryan Tannehill.  Tannehill lucio muy bien en su primera practica ayer domingo, y el coordinador ofensivo Mike Sherman dijo que el quarterback estaba mucho mas avanzado de lo que el esperaba y que Tannehill ha progresado muchisimo desde las practicas del mes de junio.  

Los Marlins abrieron su serie con los Padres de San Diego el viernes con una derrota, pero se recuperaron de lo mas bien, con victorias el sabado y el domingo.  Nathan Eovaldi gano en su debut con los Peces el sabado, y ayer el heroe fue Justin Ruggiano, que decidio el partido en la parte baja de la decima entrada con un hit impulsador.  Los Marlins estan en Atlanta, donde esta noche abren una serie de cuatro juegos contra los Bravos.  Los lanzadores en esta serie, comenzando esta noche, Mark Buehrle vs. Tommy Hanson; Ricky Nolasco vs. Kris Medlen el martes; Carlos Zambrano vs. Ben Sheets el miercoles; y Nathan Eovaldi se enfrentara contra Mike Minor el jueves.  Los cuatro juegos de la serie contra los Bravos arrancan a las 7:10 de la noche.  

El jardinero Logan Morrison fue puesto en la lista de los lesionados de 15 dias, pero su regreso esta temporada esta en veremos.  Morrison dijo que el quiere regresar dentro de dos semanas, pero los problemas que sigue teniendo en la rodilla pudieran necesitar  que operen al jardinero, lo que pudiera poner fin a su temporada.  El manager de los Marlins, Ozzie Guillen, estaba bastante disgustado con esta situacion.  “En el pasado, han hechos (mala plabra) bastante estupida aqui,” le dijo Guillen al Miami Herald y al Palm Beach Post ayer domingo.  “Lo dejaron ir a Asia a jugar y tener la cirugia artroscopica sabiendo que ya empezaba la pretemporada de la primavera.  Ese tipo de cosa no va a volver a pasar.  Yo pienso que los Marlins son mas importante que el equipo USA, o cualquier otra cosa que estaba haciendo.  Pienso que ellos (la gerencia) sabian que este problema viene andando desde el año pasado.  No le voy a hechar la culpa a nadie, pero piensenlo.  Aqui hay mucha (mala palabre) que hay que limpiar, y ese es mi trabajo.”  

El ritmo va a accelerar bastante hoy llegando a la hora limite para poder hacer cambios, mañana martes a las cuatro de la tarde.  El viernes en este espacio les mencione el jardinero de los Phillies Hunter Pence y como me gustaria verlo en un uniforme de los Marlins.  Fuentes me informan que los Gigantes de San Francisco estan bien cerca de completar un cambio por Pence.  Despues que fueron barridos por los Bravos de Atlanta este pasado fin de semana, me luce que los Phillies se van a convertir en vendedores.
