The 2012 Olympics officially kick off today in London with the Opening Ceremonies.  Sir Paul McCartney will close tonight’s festivities with a rendition of the Beatles classic, Hey Jude.  There will be a lot of matchups and events that we should all follow very closely, and I am going to pay attention to the matchup between Michael Phelps and Cuban-American swimmer Ryan Lochte.  Lochte was born in Rochester, New York, but his mother Ileana is Cuban.  Phelps and Lochte will square off in the 400 meter individual medley tomorrow afternoon.

The Miami Dolphins opened training camp today, and all eyes will be on the competition for the starting quarterback job.  Will it be former Pro Bowler David Garrard, incumbent Matt Moore, or first round draft pick Ryan Tannehill?  Long term, Tannehill will be the starter for the Fins, but this year will probably belong to either Garrard or Moore.  Will the newly re-named wide receiver Chad Johnson (Ochocinco) be able to make an impact?  How much will the Dolphin defense miss the presence of Jason Taylor, who will now be brandishing a microphone on ESPN as an analyst.  

Other training camps around the NFL that I will be looking at early include the Denver Broncos, with their new starting quarterback Peyton Manning; the New York Jets with Tim Tebow pushing Mark Sanchez; the Indianapolis Colts and the Washington Redskins with their two top draft picks, Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III.  The first preseason game for the Dolphins will be August 10th against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  

Speaking of first games, the NBA Champion Miami Heat will open the 2013 season on October 30th, here at the AAA, against the Boston Celtics.    

The Marlins conclude a brief home stand this weekend with a three game series against the San Diego Padres.  The pitching matchups for the series, starting tonight, Carlos Zambrano against Kip Wells, tomorrow we will get our first look at Nathan Eovaldi in a Marlins uniform against Ross Ohlendorf, and on sunday, Josh Johnson will toe the rubber against Clayton Richard.  Friday and Saturday, the games start at 7:10 pm and sunday’s game is at 1:10.  The Fish will then hit the road for almost two weeks, with stops in Atlanta, Washington, and New York, before returning to Miami to welcome Hanley Ramirez and the Los Angeles Dodgers for a weekend series that starts on friday, August 10th.  

The trade rumors keep flying around major league baseball as we fast approach the 4pm trade deadline on Tuesday.  I have mentioned all of the popular names the last week or so on this blog, and now, it is just a matter of which teams can work something out?  One name I do want to mention - Phillies right fielder Hunter Pence.  If the Phillies become sellers, this is a guy that I would absolutely love to see in a Marlins uniform.  I’m just saying.

Las Olimpiadas del 2012 arrancan oficialmente hoy en Londres con las ceremonias de apertura.  Sir Paul McCartney cerrara el evento esta noche con una rendicion de la cancion de los Beatles, Hey Jude.  Van a haber muchos eventos y encuentros que debemos de seguir bien de cerca, y mañana por la tarde, yo voy a estar prestando bastante atencion al enfrentamiento de Michael Phelps y el Cubano-Americano Ryan Lochte en la carrera individual de 400 metros en natacion.  Lochte nacio en Rochester, NY, pero su mama Ileana es Cubana, nacida en la Habana.  

Los Miami Dolphins abrieron su campo de entrenamiento hoy, y todo el mundo esta atento para ver la competencia para la posicion de quarterback abridor.  Sera el ex Pro Bowl quarterback David Garrard, el abridor del año pasado Matt Moore, o la primera seleccion del draft de los Fins, Ryan Tannehill?  A largo plazo, pienso que el puesto es de Tannehill, pero esta temporada, probablemente esta entre Garrard y Moore.  El recibidor recien re-nombrado Chad Johnson (Ochocinco) tendra un impacto positivo como recibifor?  Cuando va a extrañar la defense de los Fins a Jason Taylor, que cambio el casco por un microfono en ESPN como analista.

Las malas lenguas siguen con sus chismes y sus rumores mientras nos acercamos a la fecha limite para hacer cambios este proximo martes a las 4 de la tarde.  Les he mencionado todos los nombres populares en este espacio durante las ultimas dos semanas, y ahora esperamos para ver cuales son los equipo que pueden llegar a hacer acuerdos.  Un nombre que quiero mencionar hoy - el jardinero Hunter Pence de los Phillies de Philadelphia.  Si los Phillies se convierten en vendedores, Pence es un jugador que me encantaria ver vistiendo el uniforme de los Marlins.
