The Dolphins‘ three game winning streak ended yesterday in Indianapolis, as the Fins fell to the Colts 23-20. Andrew Luck was the man for the Colts, as he set a new NFL rookie QB record with 433 yards passing. More impressive, though, was that he was able to convert 13 out of 19 third down opportunities against a Dolphins defense that came into the game leading the league in preventing third down conversions. Miami's rookie QB Ryan Tannehill had a good game, completing 22-38 passes for 290 with a TD and no interceptions. Yesterday, the offensive line had horrible moments as did the defensive secondary. The Dolphins will rebound from this loss next Sunday, here at the Seven Names Stadium, against the Tennessee Titans. Game time on Sunday is 1:00 pm.

The Miami Heat were squished by the New York Knicks on Friday night, 104-84. Not even close. Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks with 30 points. The Heat had a back to back on Saturday night, here at the AAA against the Denver Nuggets, and the Nuggets did everything but win the game. Ray Allen’s three-point basket with 6.7 seconds left in the game from the baseline corner, a place that will be referred to from now on as Allen-Town, gave the Heat a 119-116 victory over the Nuggets. Allen was fouled on that shot and hit the foul shot as well. Chris Bosh went nuts on the Nuggets with 40 points, and LeBron James added 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 11 assists, including the assist on Allen’s game-winning basket. Great teams find a way to win games, and that is exactly what Miami did on Saturday night. The Heat return to the court tonight at the AAA against the Phoenix Suns. After tonight’s game, they hit the road for games in Brooklyn against the Nets on Wednesday night, and in Atlanta on Friday night against the Hawks. In the NBA yesterday,
New York Knicks 100 Philadelphia 76ers 84
Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks with 27 points.
Orlando Magic 115 Phoenix Suns 94
JJ Redick had 24 points, Arron Afflalo and Glen Davis added 22 each
Toronto Raptors 105 Minnesota Timberwolves 86
DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry scored 22 points each
Atlanta Hawks 104 Oklahoma City Thunder 95
Al Horford scored 23 points and pulled down 12 rebounds
LA Lakers 108 Detroit Pistons 79
28 points for Dwight Howard

TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION: The Lakers finally won their first game of the season yesterday after opening the 2012 campaign 0-3. What was the last time the Lakers started a season 0-4? Tell you later, alligator.
In baseball, the Arizona Fall League held their All Star game on Saturday. The Marlins had three prospects participating in the game. Pitchers Michael Brady and Grant Drayton both pitched in relief. Brady gave up a run and two hits in 2/3 of an inning, and Drayton struck out the only batter he faced. Outfielder Christian Yelich singled in two at-bats.
Good news out of Yankeeland - Mariano Rivera told Yankee GM Brian Cashman that he wants to play in 2013. Rivera, who turns 43 next month, suffered a season-ending injury in May, and after having surgery in June, is expected to be ready for Spring Training. Baseball’s all-time saves leader with 608, plus a whopping 42 more in postseason play, is currently a free agent. Cashman and Rivera’s agent, Fernando Cuza, will be working on a new deal.
In college football on Saturday, the FIU Panthers won their second game of the season, beating South Alabama, in Mobile, 28-20. The Panthers are off this weekend, and will return to the field on Friday, November 16th, in Boca Raton, against Florida Atlantic. Game time will be 8:00 pm. Remember, you can catch the FIU game broadcasts (in English, no less) on your smartphone or on the computer at www.fiusports.com. I will be handling the play-by-play, and Pete Pelegrin will be handling the color analysis.
In college football this past weekend, Alabama remains #1 after beating #5 LSU 21-17. Kansas State remains #2 after getting past #24 Oklahoma State 55-34. Oregon jumped past Notre Dame to claim the #3 ranking, after they beat #17 USC 62-51. Notre Dame is now #4, after a triple-overtime win against lowly Pittsburgh 29-26. Georgia beat up Ole Miss 37-10, to move up to #5. Rounding out the top ten, Florida is #6, LSU fell to 7th, South Carolina is #8, Louisville #9, and the Seminoles of Florida State are #10.
THE ANSWER TO TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION: The Lakers finally won their first game of the season yesterday after opening the campaign 0-3. What was the last time the Lakers started a season 0-4? The Lakers started 0-4 in 1957, when they were the Minneapolis Lakers. The Lakers last started 0-3 in 1978, and they proceeded to win 15 out of their next 16 games.
