The Miami Heat crushed the Brooklyn Nets last night at the AAA, 103-73.  Easy night for the Heaters as they got 20 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists from LeBron James and Dwayne Wade added 22 points.  The Heaters played their best defensive game of the young season yesterday, holding the Nets to 37.5% shooting (30-80) from the floor and 14.3% (3-21) from beyond the 3-point arc.  Miami improved their record to 4-1 to open the season, all four of their wins coming at home, where they have won 16 out of their last 18 encounters dating back to last season.  The team now goes on a two-week, six-game road trip, which first takes them to Atlanta to meet up with the Hawks tomorrow.  They then travel to Memphis, Houston, Los Angeles, Denver and Phoenix.  The team returns home to face the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday, November 21.  In the NBA yesterday,

Phoenix Suns 117 Charlotte Bobcats 110
Shannon Brown scored 24 points, hitting six 3-pointers in the 4th quarter

Atlanta Hawks 89 Indiana Pacers 86
Al Horford led a balanced attack with 16 points, Jeff Teague added 15

TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  Rajon Rondo had 14 assists last night for the Boston Celtics and has recorded more than 10 assists in 28 consecutive games.  Two players hold the first three spots for that record.  Who are they?  Tell you later, alligator.

The Dolphins will looking at emphasizing their running game this Sunday when they take on the Tennessee Titans at the Seven Names Stadium.  Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas have been splitting the work load, although the last couple of weeks, Thomas has been in on more plays than Bush.  I look for the Fins to increase Bush’s load against the Titans, who come into the game with the 30th worst run defense in the NFL.  Also look for Bush to be used as a receiver to try and get him the ball in the open field.  The Dolphins pass defense will again be tested, as the Titans will have their starting QB, Jake Locker, back this week.  Game time against the Titans is at 1:00 pm.   You can watch the game on Channel 4, CBS in Miami.

Bye week for the Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, Arizona Cardinals, Washington Redskins

In college football, the FIU Panthers are off this weekend, and will return to the field on Friday, November 16th, in Boca Raton, against Florida Atlantic.  Game time will be 8:00 pm.  Remember, you can catch the FIU game broadcasts (in English, no less) on your smartphone or on the computer at www.fiusports.com.  I will be handling the play-by-play, and Pete Pelegrin will be handling the color analysis.

The University of Miami Hurricanes can clinch the ACC Coastal Division championship with wins over Virginia this Saturday and Duke next week.  This division has only one bowl-eligible team so far (Duke), and UM is unranked, with four losses, and under the black cloud of an NCAA investigation.  The 2012 version of the Canes is 97th in the country running the football, averaging 130 yards per game, and 84th in the nation in points defense, allowing over 30 points per game.  This team is not anywhere close to getting back to the level of prominence it has enjoyed in the past.  This saturday's game between the Canes and Virginia is a 12 noon kickoff and you watch the game on ABC, Channel 10 in Miami.

In top ten action this week in college football:

Tonight, #10 Florida State will be on the road to take on Virginia Tech. You can watch the game at 7:30 pm on ESPN on your cable or satellite system.

On Saturday,

#1 Alabama hosts #15 Texas A&M
#2 Kansas State visits TCU
#3 Oregon travels to California
#4 Notre Dame goes on the road to play Boston College
#5 Georgia is at Auburn
#6 Florida takes on Louisiana-Lafayette at the swamp
#7 LSU entertains #21 Mississippi State
#8 South Carolina hosts Arkansas
#9 Louisville visits Syracuse

THE ANSWER TO TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  Rajon Rondo had 14 assists last night for the Boston Celtics and has recorded more than 10 assists in 28 consecutive games.  Two players hold the first three spots for that record.  Who are they? Magic Johnson of the LA Lakers reached double figures in assists 44 consecutive games in 1983-1984.  John Stockton of the Utah Jazz had streaks a few times in his career, he is now 2nd and 3rd with 37 straight games in 1989 and 29 straight games in 1992.  Incredibly enough, there are discrepancies in Magic’s streak numbers, and it is unclear if his streak was 44 or 46 games.
