Sad news today.  According to the Associated Press, doctors say famed Puerto Rican boxer Hector "Macho" Camacho is clinically "brain dead" after being shot in the face while he and a friend were sitting in a car outside a bar Tuesday night.  His friend died as a result of the shooting.
Dr. Ernesto Torres said at a news conference this morning that doctors are still performing tests on the 50-year-old Camacho before meeting with his family.  Police spokesman Alex Diaz has said officers found nine small bags of cocaine in the friend's pocket, and a 10th bag open inside the car.  Camacho was a popular and skilled boxer who battled drugs, alcohol and other problems throughout his life. He had a career record of 79-6-3.
It wasn’t easy, but a win is a win.  The Miami Heat wasted an 18-point lead and needed overtime to defeat the Milwaukee Bucks last night, 113-106 here at the AAA.  The Big Four combined to score 97 points to tie its best start to a season at 9-3, 5-0 at home.  Dwayne Wade and LeBron James each scored 28 points, Chris Bosh added 24 points and grabbed 18 rebounds, while Ray Allen finished with 17 points off the bench.  Kudos to Udonis Haslem who passed Alonzo Mourning in the Heat record books with the most rebounds in team history, with 4,814.  The team is off until Saturday night, when they welcome the Cleveland Cavaliers to the AAA, and they are off again until next Thursday, the 29th, when Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker, and the rest of the San Antonio Spurs come calling.  In the NBA yesterday,

TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  When was the first time the NFL played on Thanksgiving day?  Tell you later, alligator.

In college football, both local universities close out their seasons this saturday.  The University of Miami Hurricanes will try to end 2012 with a victory at Duke against the Blue Devils at 12:30 pm.  Meanwhile, FIU closes out their season as they host UL-Monroe at the Cage.  Game time is 6:00 pm, and you can listen to the game broadcast (in English) on your smartphone or on the computer at www.fiusports.com.  I will be handling the play-by-play, and Pete Pelegrin will be handling the color analysis.

THE ANSWER TO TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  When was the first time the NFL played on Thanksgiving day?  It was back in 1920, when the Akron Pros beat the Canton Bulldogs 7-0.  College football beat them to it, though.  On Thanksgiving Day, 1876, Yale and Princeton squared off when the American Intercollegiate Football Association held its first championship game.

Don’t miss my two “Descarga Deportiva” segments (for the Spanish-challenged, “Sports Jam Session”) every day, Monday through Friday, at 9:25 am and 12:15 pm on Radio Esperanza, 1550 AM or on the internet on www.miradioesperanza.com

The 9:25 am segment on Radio Esperanza is brought to you by the fine folks at La Lechonera Products.  The inventors of the original mojo criollo way back in 1970, also offer the BEST naranja agria (sour orange marinade) product on the market, along with the latest additions to the family - the SALSA PICANTE (hot sauces, both HOT and EXTRA HOT), SALSA DE ALITAS (Buffalo Wings Sauce) and the truly incredible SALSA PICANTE con AJO (Garlic Pepper Sauce - Sriracha).  Look for all the La Lechonera products at Publix, Winn Dixie, Sedano’s, Presidente, and GFS.  If they don’t have it where you shop, ask nicely the first time, then use whatever means necessary to make sure they start offering the complete line of products.  LIKE them on Facebook and go to www.lalechoneraproducts.com to check out their recipe for PAVO CON MOJO (Turkey with Mojo).
