MLB is investigating allegations that a number of players,  including names like Alex Rodriguez, Gio Gonzalez, Melky Cabrera, Bartolo Colon, and Nelson Cruz, bought preformance-enhancing drugs, including HGH (human growth hormone), testosterone, and anabolic steroids from a South Florida “wellness” clinic, Biogenesis.  The head of the clinic, Anthony Bosch, was connected to Manny Ramirez when the former all-star was suspended in 2009.  Bosch has never been charged by local or federal officials.

The players named in these reports that were published in the Miami New Times are all denying any involvement whatsoever, and A-Rod has gone as far as hiring a lawyer, prominent attorney Roy Black, to represent him in this matter.  Other names listed on the report include former University of Miami pitcher Cesar Carrillo, Jimmy Goins, the strength and conditioning coach at the University of Miami the last nine years, and Cuban-born boxer Yuriorkis Gamboa.

Here are the original articles as published in the Miami New Times.

The Miami Heat return to the court tonight in Brooklyn, where they take on the surging Nets.  Brooklyn has welcomed 2013 with a bang, winning 11 of their 14 encounters in the new year, with all three losses coming on the road.  Overall, they have won eight games in a row at the Barclays Center.  Miami, on the other hand, is only 7-5 in 2013, including a 3-4 mark on the road.  Game time tonight is 8:00 pm, and you can watch the game on Sun Sports or ESPN on your cable or satellite system.  This road trip continues in Indianapolis on Friday, and Super Bowl Sunday in Toronto.

The Basketball Canes are in Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech tonight, then continue on to Raleigh for a game against #19 North Carolina State on Saturday.  Miami is ranked #14 in the country,

The FIU basketball team has won 7 out of their last 9 games and they will be at home this week, taking on Middle Tennessee Thursday night and will host Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday at the US Century Bank Arena on campus.

In Las Vegas, the San Francisco 49ers remain a 3 1/2-point favorites to win the Super Bowl over the Baltimore Ravens.  The over-under on total points scored is now down to 47.  The opening lines were 5 points and over/under of 49.

Today’s featured article is from Fox News, and they bring us a list of Super Bowl FOOD facts.

TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  The 49ers last won the Super Bowl after the 1994 season (Super Bowl XXIX), the Ravens won after the 2000 season (Super Bowl XXXV).  Who were the MVP’s of those games?  Tell you later, alligator.

We again want to take a minute to congratulate the Marlins ownership for causing us to lose out on another All Star game.  Everyone had their sights set on getting the 2015 midsummer classic, but thanks to the dismantling of the team this winter, MLB has again decided to punish Miami and will award the 2015 game to Cincinnati.  If this sounds familiar to you all, it should.  We were supposed to also host the 2000 All Star game, but after the 1998 dismantling of the 1997 world championship team, MLB also dissed South Florida.

Dear Santa Claus  Tooth Fairy  Cupid  Easter Bunny  Jeffrey Loria and minions:

What do you mean, you still haven’t sold the team?  You’re still here?  What are you waiting for? The Super Bowl?  Valentine’s day?  Easter?  Next year’s HOF election?

Your inept management allowed the Marlins farm system to deteriorate to the point of being horrible, and now have dismantled the major league roster while pissing off the players on the roster and the entire South Florida community.  This latest dismantling now cost Miami the 2015 All-Star game.  You really didn’t think that MLB would award you the game after this offseason, did you?

How soon before you get rid of Giancarlo Stanton for another group of so-called prospects, as you continue to allow your management to “sell low and buy high”.  Please sell the team so we can once again enjoy baseball in Miami.

All kidding aside, your window of opportunity to get out of town is opening up in just a few weeks.  The five-year anniversary of the Marlins and Miami-Dade County agreement for the baseball stadium is coming up on February 21, 2013.  After that time, the “penalty” for selling the team is only 5%, a mere pittance, based on a $250 million value of the team.  You’ve already saved much more than that on the salary dump this season alone.  Of course, you and your minions have already decided not to field a quality major league roster this coming season, hopefully setting up the sale of the team.

We’ll continue to keep our fingers crossed and light a candle in the meantime.

Here’s the answer to today’s question:  The 49ers last won the Super Bowl after the 1994 season (Super Bowl XXIX), the Ravens won after the 2000 season (Super Bowl XXXV).  Who were the MVP’s of those games?
Steve Young of the 49ers was the MVP in Super Bowl XXIX and Ray Lewis was named the MVP in Super Bowl XXXV.
