HUMP DAY! Wednesday, October 9th, 2013

In the MLB playoffs, the Boston Red Sox sent the Tampa Bay Rays packing yesterday, defeating the Rays 3-1 and take the series three games to one.  They will enjoy a few days of rest as they watch the outcome of the Detroit Tigers and Oakland A’s series, now tied at 2 games apiece, after the Tigers got past the A's yesterday, 8-6.  The deciding game 5 of that series will be played tomorrow.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals duke it out in game five of their division series tonight in St. Louis.  First pitch will be at 8:07 pm. Adam Wainwright will be on the mound for the Cardinals, Gerrit Cole will toe the rubber for the Pirates.

Here are the game capsules and summaries for both the National League and American League divisional series:

In other baseball news,

For all the Yankee fans out there, here are five reasons to believe in next year’s Yankees:

Hal Steinbrenner comments about the Yankee universe in general, including Robinson Cano and Joe Girardi:

My take on Cano:  Robinson Cano is a great player, the best player on the Yankees.  However, 10 years and $305 million is too much to pay.  Cano is 31 years old, and a contract until the age of 41 is not feasible.  If I am a GM, nothing more than a 6 year deal would be on the table for Cano.  6 years, $150 million sounds right to me.

The Angels keep manager Mike Scioscia and GM Jerry Dipoto

Why do baseball players talk into their gloves?

TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  Even a hobbled Miguel Cabrera makes a huge difference.  Last night, Miggy set a new postseason record by reaching base in his 28th consecutive postseason game.  Who held the record before Cabrera?  The answers comes later, alligator.

The Fins have their bye week this week. In other Dolphin news:

In other NFL news, the league is considering eliminating the fourth preseason game and adding two more playoff teams.  Good idea, especially since the players union don’t want to just switch the last two preseason games to expand the regular season to 18 games.

Of course, we can all continue to sleep at night, knowing full well that Aaron Hernandez remains in jail, where he belongs.

THE ANSWER TO TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  Even a hobbled Miguel Cabrera makes a huge difference.  Last night, Miggy set a new postseason record by reaching base in his 28th consecutive postseason game.  Who held the record before Cabrera?

Chase Utley of the Philadelphia Phillies reached base 27 straight games from 2007 to 2009.

Behave yourselves, and always remember that tomorrow will bring us a brand new day.
