The blog is again coming to you from the beautiful North Georgia mountains:
NOTE TO ALL: I will have my fearless NBA predictions in tomorrow’s blog.
Lets go to the ballpark:
The weekend gave us two very strange and different endings to World Series games three and four. On Saturday, St. Louis Cardinals beat the Red Sox 5-4, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning on an interference call by the third base umpire. Yesterday, Jonny Gomes blasted a three-run homer to break a 1-1 tie and the Sox held on to win 4-2, the last out of the game coming when pinch runner Kolten Wong was picked off first base with the tying run up at the plate in the person of Carlos Beltran. It was the first time in the history of baseball that a postseason game ended on a pickoff. The series is now tied 2-2, and game five is tonight, at 8:00 pm, with a matchup of game one starters. Adam Wainwright will start for St. Louis, Jon Lester for Boston.
To again quote the legendary Babe Ruth: “Baseball was, is, and always will be, the best game in the world.”

In other baseball news,
Let’s go to the gridiron:
The Dolphins blew a 17-3 third-quarter lead in Foxboro yesterday, and lost to the New England Patriots 27-17. The turnover bug and very questionable officiating allowed the Pats to score 24 unanswered points as the Fins lost their seventh consecutive game in New England. After starting the season 3-0, Miami has lost four games in a row. It will not get any easier this week, as the Fins will host the Cincinnati Bengals here at the Seven Names Stadium. The Bengals crushed the NY Jets yesterday, 49-9.
Here’s the local media reaction to yesterday’s loss:
More from Armando Salguero:
