The blog coming to you from the beautiful North Georgia mountains:

The World Series begins on Wednesday, in Boston, as the Red Sox host the St. Louis Cardinals.  If we go by the League Championship Series, both in the AL and in the NL, the World Series promises to be a lulu.  Both teams come in relatively healthy, and well rested.  The Cardinals are hoping that first baseman Allen Craig will be ready to return for the series.  Craig hasn’t been able to play since the beginning of September due to a foot injury.  Craig re-defined clutch hitting this season, hitting a major-league best .454 with runners in scoring position.  Both teams will have their aces on the mound for game one as Jon Lester will toe the rubber for the Red Sox, while Adam Wainwright will be on the mound for the Cardinals.  First pitch on Wednesday will be at  8:07 pm, and you can watch all the games on FOX.  I will have my fearless prediction in Wednesday’s blog.

World Series Schedule:

WEDNESDAY GAME 1

Cardinals @ Red Sox     Adam Wainwright vs Jon Lester 8:07 pm   FOX

THURSDAY GAME 2

Cardinals @ Red Sox     Michael Wacha vs Clay Buchholz 8:07 pm FOX

To again quote the legendary Babe Ruth:

“Baseball was, is, and always will be, the best game in the world.”

TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  What a turnaround season for the Boston Red Sox!  They became only the seventh team to get to the World Series one season after finishing in last place.  Only one of the previous six teams went on to win the Fall Classic.  Who dunnit?  The answer comes later, alligator.

It doesn’t happen often, but the two best teams in baseball are in the world series:

Let’s go to the gridiron:

The Dolphins lost to the Bills, 23-21 yesterday.  The Dolphins did everything in their power to not win this game, and they succeeded.  God-awful performance.  Now, they get to travel to New England next week and play the Patriots, who will be angry after losing yesterday to the Jets.  I’ll let the local pundits expand and throw dirt on the Fins’ grave:

Here’s Armando Salguero:

A HORRIBLE Sunday in my NFL picks.  That’ll teach me to not stay home and watch the Red Zone and coach from my recliner.  0-5 yesterday, as the Dolphins, Patriots, Bears, and Broncos all lost, and the Chiefs didn’t cover the spread.  Last time I drive anywhere on Sunday.  My record so far this season:  24-22-2 against the spread, and 30-19 straight up.

TONIGHT

Minnesota @ NY Giants -4 8:30 pm ESPN

If this was a college bowl game, it would probably be called the Toilet Bowl.  The 1-4 Vikings against the 0-5 Giants.  The Vikings will have former Tampa Bay QB Josh Freeman making his debut against the Giants.  On the other side of the field, Eli Manning has been horrible so far this season, but he gets to face one of the worst defenses against the pass.  Manning has 15 interceptions this season, matching his total for the entire 2012 season.  The Giants have to win at some point, right?  This just isn’t the week.  I’ll take the Vikings plus the points.

Here are all the scores and details from the NFL:

Of course, we can all continue to sleep at night, knowing full well that Aaron Hernandez remains in jail, where he belongs.

In college football, week full of upsets. The #3, #6, #7, #8, and #9 teams in the college football rankings all lost.  The University of Miami Hurricanes moved up from #10 to #7.  Miami is 6-0 for the first time since 2004 and will return to the field next Saturday, October 26, here at home at the Seven Names Stadium, against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.  Kickoff will be at 12 noon, and you can watch it on ESPN-U.

The FIU Panthers return to the field on Saturday, here at home, against the Bulldogs from Louisiana Tech.  Game time at FIU Stadium is 6:00 pm.

THE ANSWER TO TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  What a turnaround season for the Boston Red Sox!  They became only the seventh team to get to the World Series one season after finishing in last place.  Only one of the previous six teams went on to win the Fall Classic.  Who dunnit?

The Minnesota Twins, in 1991.  As info, the 1991 Braves, the 1993 Phillies, the 1998 Padres, the 2007 Rockies, and the 2008 Rays also went to the World Series the next season after finishing in last place, but all of them lost in the Fall Classic.
Behave yourselves, and always remember that tomorrow will bring us a brand new day.
