To quote the legendary Bambino, Babe Ruth:
“Baseball was, is, and always will be, the best game in the world.”
Let’s start off today with the League Championship Series in MLB.
The Cardinals were dumbfounded yesterday with Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu, who dominated them for seven shutout innings and the Dodgers beat St. Louis 3-0 to tighten the series to a two games to one advantage for the Cards. After going hitless in his first 11 at bats in the series, with seven strikeouts, Yasiel Puig hit a run-scoring triple in the fourth inning. Hanley Ramirez, still hurting with a broken rib, drove in a run with a single in the eighth inning. The teams are back at it tonight, as Ricky Nolasco is scheduled to go for the Dodgers and Lance Lynn will be on the mound for the Cards. Dodgers’ manager Don Mattingly is supposedly considering bringing Zack Greinke back on short rest, but, at least for now, all signs are indicating it will be Nolasco. First pitch will be at 8:07 pm, and you can watch it on TBS on your cable or satellite system.
The ALCS is on again today, as the Detroit Tigers host the Boston Red Sox in game three of their series, tied at 1-1. Justin Verlander will be on the mound for the Tigers, while John Lackey toes the rubber for the Red Sox. First pitch will be at 4:07 pm, and the game will be televised by FOX.

Justin Verlander vs John Lackey 4:00 pm FOX

In other baseball news,
The story just won’t go away. The attorneys for Alex Rodriguez and Biogenesis owner Tony Bosch almost came to blows yesterday. They must think they're on the Jerry Springer Show at the City of Doral:
In something that also, unfortunately, won’t go away, the Marlins are still owned by Jeffrey Loria. While I’m still wishing and hoping that this inept and incompetent owner will eventually do the right thing and sell the team to someone who truly cares, it got me thinking . . . with Larry Beinfest now gone, does this open the door for a potential Giancarlo Stanton trade? There are a number of teams that would jump over a tall building in a single bound to get Stanton. The Phillies, Braves, and Mets in the NL East, the Yankees, Orioles, and the Red Sox in the AL East, just to name a few. Stanton remains under team control for another three seasons, and that makes him very attractive in a trade.
The New York Daily News is reporting that the Yankees and Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran may have mutual interest. Beltran will be a free agent after the world series.
Umpire Wally Bell, who worked the Pirates-Cards series a few days ago, died of a heart attack yesterday at the age of 48.
TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION: A two-part question, thinking about the Red Sox - Tigers series. When Anibal Sanchez struck out four batters in the same inning in game one, he became only the second pitcher ever to do that in the postseason. In game two, Jarrod Saltalamacchia became the second catcher in Red Sox lore to have a walk-off hit in the postseason. Who were the first? The answers comes later, alligator.
Let’s go to the gridiron:

THE ANSWER TO TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION: A two-part question, thinking about the Red Sox - Tigers series. When Anibal Sanchez struck out four batters in the same inning in game one, he became only the second pitcher ever to do that in the postseason. In game two, Jarod Saltalamacchia became the second catcher in Red Sox lore to have a walk-off hit in the postseason. Who were the first?
The answer to part two of the question is easy . . . Carlton Fisk’s memorable walk-off homer in game six of the 1975 World Series. On the other hand, the only other pitcher in MLB history with four strikeouts in an inning in a postseason game, was (I’m not making this up), was Orval Overall, while pitching for the Chicago Cubs in the 1908 World Series.
Behave yourselves, and always remember that tomorrow will bring us a brand new day.
