Playing in front of what will probably be the largest crowd of the year last night, the Marlins were shutout by the Braves, 2-0.  An announced crowd of 34,439 saw a well-pitched game by Paul Maholm and Kevin Slowey.  Maholm gave up only one hit in his seven innings of work, Slowey also went seven innings, and just couldn’t get Justin Upton out.  Upton finished 4-4, with a monster home run, his sixth of the year, and scored both runs.  The Fish threatened in the ninth against Braves closer Craig Kimbrel, but left runners on first and third when Kimbrel punched out Adeiny Hechavarria.  The teams return to the field tonight, again at 7:10.  Wade LeBlanc will start for the Marlins, while Kris Medlen takes the hill for the Braves. The Braves improved to 6-1, their best start since 2007.  They’re still not running on all cylinders, as Freddie Freeman and Brian McCann on the DL, BJ Upton is hitting only .120, Jason Heyward is at .083, Dan Uggla is hitting .174, and SS Andrelton Simmons is struggling at .143.  When they do, watch out.

Armando Salguero of the Herald rested from his Dolphin duties to attend the Marlins home opener, and he filed this report:

TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  On Sunday, we saw Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez make his ML debut at the age of 20 years, 250 days.  Who were the two youngest Marlins to make their debuts? Tell you later, alligator.

In other baseball news, Indians manager Terry Francona got lost walking to the stadium yesterday.  Luckily, he lives only two blocks from Progressive Field.  Fox Sports has the story:

After a little more than a full week of games, here are the ML individual leaders.  Don’t be alarmed. . .there are some unexpected names (JOHN BUCK?!?!?) up among the league leaders:

You would have to say that the last week has been pretty good for Louisville head basketball coach Rick Pitino.  His son Richard quit FIU to take the head coaching job at Minnesota, his horse won a big race as he prepares for the Kentucky Derby, it was announced yesterday that he will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, and last night, his Louisville team won the national championship, beating Michigan 82-76.  The Cardinals rallied from a 12-point deficit in the first half.  At least, my totally busted bracket ended OK, as I had the Cardinals winning the championship.  Tonight, the Louisville women’s team will try to duplicate the effort as they take on Connecticut in the women’s national championship game.

In local college basketball news, no news yet from Westchester regarding the search for a new basketball head coach at FIU.   Athletic Director Pete Garcia said last week that he expects to have a replacement in no later than a week to ten days, so we may have something as early as sometime later in the week.

In Miami Dolphin news, the Dolphins and Miami-Dade County reached a deal on the renovations for the Seven-Names Stadium  The Miami Herald is all over this story:

Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Posts thinks that the Dolphins’ biggest need in this upcoming draft is the offensive line:

In college baseball, FIU lost two out of three against South Alabama in Mobile this weekend.  Meanwhile, over in Coral Gables, the University of Miami also fell twice in their three-game series against arch-rival Florida State this weekend.  FIU hosts Louisiana-Monroe this weekend at FIU Stadium, while the Canes will host Stetson on Wednesday, and travel to College Park, MD this weekend to take on Maryland.
