The good news for the Marlins yesterday is that they hit their first home run in the last nine games, and their first this season at Marlins Park.  The bad news is that that hideous thing in left field still works.  Adeiny Hechavarria blasted a three-run homer as the offensively-challenged Marlins beat up on the Nationals yesterday, 8-2.  Justin Ruggiano also drove in three runs for the Marlins, who finally beat the Nats after losing their first four encounters and being outscored 21-4 by the team from Washington, DC.  Alex Sanabia got the win, his second of the season, allowing two runs in six innings of work.  The team also paid tribute the city of Boston when the crowd sang along to “Sweet Caroline” before the bottom of the eighth inning.  The song has been a feature in all Red Sox home games since 2002.  Ricky Nolasco takes the mound tonight for the Marlins, Ross Detwiler will start for the Nats.  First pitch is at 7:10 pm, and you can watch the game on Fox Sports Florida.

Giancarlo Stanton sat out for the fifth consecutive game because of a left shoulder strain.  The Man-Child took batting practice yesterday and said he felt better, adding that he may rejoin the lineup today.

Even after the eight-run explosion last night, the Marlins are still last in MLB in runs scored, with a grand total of 31 runs in their first fourteen games.  I will be posting the “bottom five” rankings in runs scored until the Marlins aren’t on the list:

TEAM W-L Runs
Marlins 3-11 31
Rays 4-9 39
Dodgers 7-7 39
Cubs 4-9 44
Pirates 6-7 46
Brewers 4-8 46

Let’s get into a little bit of football.  The Herald has a seemingly-endless list of possibilities for the Dolphins in the Draft, including offensive tackle Lane Johnson.  However, if the Fins really want Johnson, they may be forced to trade up:

Armando Salguero of the Herald talks about DT Star Lotulelei as another possibility for the Fins:

Peter Schrager of FoxSports.com has a two-round mock draft:

Here’s another example of a rocket scientist (NOT):  The top-rated wide receiver in a lot of the team’s boards failed a drug test at the scouting combine in Indianapolis.  Here’s the story from ESPN’s football insider Adam Schefter:

The NFL lost one of its most influential voices yesterday with the passing of broadcaster Pat Summerall.  Two detailed stories, one from ESPN.com and one from FoxSports.com:

In college baseball, Bethune Cookman beat FIU yesterday 5-4.  The Panthers are preparing to leave for Murfreesboro, TN to take on Middle Tennessee in a three-game series this coming weekend.  Bethune-Cookman, meanwhile, stays here in town and will be in Coral Gables to take on the University of Miami Hurricanes today.  The Canes will stay at home this weekend to take on Clemson in a three-game series.

THE ANSWER TO TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION:  I mentioned here yesterday that Ryan Zimmerman has hit 19 home runs against the Marlins in his career.  What player hit the most home runs against the Fish in his career?

In 244 games against the Marlins, Larry Wayne Jones is on top of most of the offensive statistics lists against the Fish:  At Bats (864), hits (258), doubles (47), runs (152), walks (149), RBI (165), and, of course, home runs with 40.  You may remember this guy as “Chipper” Jones.
