Logan Morrison and Donovan Solano each had two hits and two RBI to lead the Marlins to a 5-2 win over the KC Royals and take two out of three in the series.  Steve Chisek pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record his 26th save of the year.  Jacob Turner started for the Fish and gave up two runs in five innings, but walked six batters in the process.  A very ugly streak came to an end yesterday.  Justin Ruggiano was 0 for his last 42 and finally had three hits yesterday.  That was not a monkey on his back . . . that was a full six-pack of King Kongs.  The Marlins are off today, and will host the San Francisco Giants in a three-game series this weekend.  The scheduled pitchers for the series with the Giants:

FRIDAY Chad Gaudin vs Nathan Eovaldi 7:10 pm
SATURDAY Matt Cain vs Henderson Alvarez 7:10 pm
SUNDAY Madison Bumgarner vs Tom Koehler 1:10 pm

The Fish will host the LA Dodgers in a four-game series starting on Monday, and then the Colorado Rockies will be in Miami for another four-game set.

The Fish are still at the bottom of the list in runs scored in MLB, with 376 runs in their 119 games, an underwhelming 3.16 runs per game.  Here are the rest of the bottom-dwellers:

TEAM W-L Runs
Marlins 46-73 376
White Sox 46-73 439
Giants 52-67 445
Astros 39-80 452
Nationals 59-60 452

In contrast, the Boston Red Sox (72-50) lead the majors with 612 runs in 122 games (5.02 runs per game).  The Detroit Tigers (70-49) have scored 609 runs in 119 games (5.12 runs per game).

The Houston Astros lead Major League Baseball with 15 players under the age of 25 on their roster, and have the worst record in MLB at 39-80.  The Marlins are third in MLB with 12 players under the age of 25, and own the second-worst record in the majors, 46-73.  Do you really want to use that excuse to justify the fact that those two teams have the worst records in baseball?  Try this on for size . . . The team that is second in the majors with 13 players under the age of 25 on their major league roster?  The Atlanta Braves, who have the best record in the Major Leagues at 74-47.

In the Major Leagues yesterday, first in the National League,

Pirates 5 Cardinals 1
Francisco Liriano threw the complete game and the Pirates got home runs from Pedro Alvarez and Garrett Jones

Nationals 6 Giants 5
Denard Span made the game-saving diving catch in left-center field with two runners on base to end the ballgame.  The Nats won their fifth straight game, their longest winning streak of the year.

Dodgers 5           Mets 4 (12 innings)
Andre Ethier tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning with a two-run homer and consecutive doubles by Yasiel Puig and Adrian Gonzalez in the 12th inning closed out yet another comeback win for the Dodgers, who erased a 4-0 deficit.  The Dodgers are 40-8 in their last 48 games.

Over in the American League,

Indians  9 Twins 8 (12 innings)
Michael Brantley’s sacrifice fly in the 12th inning was the difference.  The Indians rallied from four runs down in the eighth inning to tie the game.

Tigers 6 White Sox 4
Miguel Cabrera homered and drove in three runs as the Tigers avoided getting swept by the lowly White Sox.

Yankees 11 Angels 3
Alfonso Soriano had two homers and finished with a career high seven RBI.  If  that sounds like deja vu, it is.  He homered twice and drove in six runs the night before.

Blue Jays 4 Red Sox 3 (10 innings)
Brett Lawrie singled in the game winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning.  Boston had tied the game in the top of the ninth on a Mike Napoli two-run homer.

Rays 5 Mariners 4
The Rays ended a six-game losing streak with a 5-4 come-from-behind win over Seattle.  Jason Borgeois drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
