The Kansas City Royals remained hot, beating the Marlins last night by the score of 6-2.  Billy Butler homered and Wade Davis allowed two runs and six hits in his six innings of work.  The Marlins had some opportunities, but continue to not take advantage.  They loaded the bases in the fourth and seventh innings, but failed to score both times.  Logan Morrison and Greg Dobbs drove in the Marlins’ runs.  The Royals have now won 17 of their last 20.  Game 2 of the series is tonight at 8:10 pm.  Jose Fernandez takes the hill for the Fish, Bruce Chen will be on the mound for the Royals.

The Marlins and the Royals will close out this three-game series tomorrow with an afternoon contest that will start at 2:10 pm. Jacob Turner will start for the Fish, Ervin Santana will toe the rubber for KC.

The Fish will return to South Florida after tomorrow’s game, and will enjoy a day off on Thursday, before taking on the San Francisco Giants in a three-game series at Marlins Park starting on Friday.  Following the Giants, the Fish will host the LA Dodgers in a four-game series, and then the Colorado Rockies will be in Miami for another four-game set.

The Fish are still at the bottom of the list in runs scored in MLB, with 370 runs in their 117 games, an underwhelming 3.16 runs per game.  Here are the rest of the bottom-dwellers:

Here are the latest trade rumors around the majors:

Here is ESPN chiming in with their gossip:

I mentioned yesterday that Cuban slugger Jose Abreu had defected.  Here is Jim Bowden of ESPN’s take on who will sign him:

My take:  I honestly do not see the Marlins making a run at Abreu.  There will be a bidding war for this guy, a guy who hasn’t even played a game in the minors.  Do you see the Marlins dishing out $40-50 million when they haven’t been able to sign Giancarlo Stanton to a long-term deal?  Also, make a mental note for later:  I have not seen Abreu play or hit, but a scout I spoke to said that, although he does have raw power, he will struggle with above-average fastballs.
