If not for another blown save by the incomparable Heath Bell on Saturday, the Fish would have swept the Nationals this weekend. Yesterday, Ricky Nolasco tossed a four-hit shutout and over his last three games, he is 3-0, giving up only one earned run in 25 innings, including two complete game shutouts over the first-place Nats. In college football this past saturday, the University of Miami Hurricanes was beaten like a drum by Kansas State, 52-13. Nothing good to report from that one. The Canes will get a breather this week, as they welcome Bethune Cookman to Seven-Name Stadium at noon on saturday. Meanwhile, FIU got all they wanted from Akron and needed overtime to beat the Zips 38-35. The Panthers travel to Orlando on Saturday to take on Central Florida at 4 pm. You can listen to the games on your computer or your smartphones by going into www.fiusports.com and clickiing on the Stretch Internet radio link. I will be handling play-by-play duties this season for FIU, (in English, no less) and Pete Pelegrin will be by my side giving us his expert analysis.
TODAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION: Kicker David Akers, now with the San Francisco 49ers, tied the NFL record yesterday for the longest field goal, 63 yards, as he connected against the Green Bay Packers. Who does he share the record with? Tell you later, alligator.
The Dolphins still have never beaten the Houston Texans, losing yesterday 30-10. Arian Foster ran for two touchdowns, Matt Schaub hit former Miami High and UM receiver Andre Johnson with a TD pass, and the Texans defense made Ryan Tannehill’s NFL debut a bad one. Three interceptions and a fumble by Daniel Thomas late in the first half sealed the Fins’ fate, putting the Texans ahead 24-3. The Dolphins will have their home opener next sunday at Seven-Names Stadium as the Oakland Raiders come for a visit. In the rest of the NFL yesterday,

Chicago Bears 41 Indianapolis Colts 21
Philadelphia Eagles 17 Cleveland Browns 16
New England Patriots 34 Tennessee Titans 17
Tom Brady tiro dos pases de touchdown
Atlanta Falcons 40 Kansas City Chiefs 24
Cuatro pases de touchdown para Matt Ryan
Detroit Lions 27 St. Louis Rams 23

New York Jets 48 Buffalo Bills 28
Mark Sanchez tiro tres pases de touchdown
San Francisco 49ers 30 Green Bay Packers 22
Arizona Cardinals 20 Seattle Seahawks 16
Tampa Bay Bucs 16 Carolina Panthers 10
Denver Broncos 31 Pittsburgh Steelers 19

San Diego Chargers @ Oakland Raiders (-1) 10:15 pm ESPN
