The Marlins got home runs from Gorkys Hernandez and the man-child, Giancarlo Stanton, but it wasn’t nearly enough to overcome a shaky performance by the bullpen as the Brewers came from behind to beat the Fish 8-4. Stanton’s homer was his 30th this season, Hernandez’ blast was his first in the major leagues. Wade LeBlanc had a decent outing, giving up three runs in the first couple of innings, but settling down after that to complete 6 innings and left with a 4-3 lead. Ryan Braun drove in three runs, including the go-ahead run in the seventh inning. Jeff Bianchi hit a three-run blast in the eighth to ice the victory. The weekly rankings in College Football are out, and Alabama is back on top of the polls. USC, LSU, Oregon and Oklahoma round out the top five. Florida STate is ranked sixth, while Florida is 24th. The Dolphins kick off their regular season on Sunday in Houston at 1:00 pm, against the Texans, the only team in the NFL they have never beaten. The Fins released QB David Garrard and placed offensive lineman Artis Hicks on injured reserve with an unspecified and mystery neck injury.
The NFL season kicks off tonight as the Dallas Cowboys visit the NY Giants. The game starts at 8:30 pm, and you can see it on NBC, Channel 6 here in Miami. Dallas is favored by 4, I see them covering with no problem. The Giants defensive line should be able to control the line of scrimmage and keep Tony Romo under wraps, as his three best receivers, Jason Witten, Dez Bryant, and Miles Austin are all fighting injuries. Giants QB Eli Manning has very good receivers in his stable, and running back Ahmad Bradshaw looks ready to have a great season.
