Good morning, world!

Proving that all good things must come to an end, the Marlins were swept by the Cardinals in St. Louis this past weekend.  The Fish fell yesterday in walk-off fashion, 5-4 and lead the majors with nine walk-off losses this season.  They take on the Braves at Marlins Park in a three-game series starting tonight.  Atlanta comes in looking for a little payback after losing two out of three to the Miami last week.  Here are the pitching matchups for this series:

MONDAY Mike Minor vs Kevin Slowey 7:10 pm
TUESDAY Julio Teheran vs Henderson Alvarez 7:10 pm
WEDNESDAY Paul Maholm vs Jacob Turner          12:40 pm

After the three games with the Braves, the Marlins will enjoy a day off on Thursday and then host the Washington Nationals for the final three-game series before the All Star break.

The Fish are still the worst run-scoring team in MLB, with 283 runs in their 87 games.  Here are the rest of the bottom-dwellers:

Ricky Nolasco returns home to the west coast, as the Marlins completed the long-rumored trade with the LA Dodgers.  Nolasco spoke with the Sun Sentinel after the trade:

Keith Law of ESPN.com breaks down the trade:

My take:  I don’t really have a problem in trading Nolasco, who is not close to being a #1 or #2 starter, but will command a very high salary after this season.  If the Marlins were not going to re-sign him, then trade him for something.  However, I have a HUGE problem in what they got for him and the real reason they didn’t get more in return.....The cheapskate owner wanted the Dodgers to be responsible for the full amount of the remaining contract, thus receiving nothing in return for a quality innings-eater that will help Dodgers as they try and chase down the leaders in the West.  The Marlins ownership again showed that all they care about is the bottom-line profit and were only able to get three mediocre pitchers that are not even considered prospects by MLB scouts.  Just for fun, the names of the pitchers the Marlins received in exchange for Nolasco are Steven Ames, Josh Wall, and Angel Sanchez.  If any of these three pitchers amount to anything in the major leagues, I will be shocked.
