After pounding out 35 hits and scoring 17 runs in the first two games of their four-game set with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Marlins couldn’t continue the hitting party and lost both games of their doubleheader yesterday, 3-2 and 3-0.  The Marlins only managed five hits in each game.  Jacob Turner, the 21-year-old righthander that came to Miami from Detroit in the Anibal Sanchez/Omar Infante trade, impressed in his debut with the Fish.  Turner gave up a two-run homer in the first inning to Aaron Hill, but settled down nicely after that and completed 6 innings.  Turner showed excellent control, striking out 5 and did not walk a batter.  The Marlins need to keep him in the rotation the rest of the season, even if it means going to a six-man rotation.  In the second game, Wade LeBlanc was just as good, and he went seven innings, giving up three runs, two earned, and 5 hits.  The team will take a day off today as they enjoy the sights in Southern California and get ready to take on Hanley Ramirez and the LA Dodgers in a three game series this weekend.  Emilio Bonifacio returned to the 15-day disabled list with a knee sprain.  Yesterday in the National League,

Another wednesday, another prominent major leaguer suspended for Testosterone.  Last week, it was Melky Cabrera.  This week, the winner is Bartolo Colon.  This suspension will cost the burly righthander about $1.5 million this season.  Is MLB’s cleanup plan working?  Are the suspensions of Cabrera and Colon (and Ryan Braun, if you want to nitpick) a sign that there is still a real problem in baseball?  I’m afraid that both answers are correct.  Reports around the baseball world are indicating that the biggest problem right now is with synthetic testosterone, which does not raise the testosterone to epitestosterone ratio to 4:1, the number that MLB has been using to send up a red flag.  According to experts, synthetic testosterone supposedly vanishes from the body very quickly, and if used in extremely small doses, does not elevate the testosterone levels enough to trigger further testing.  The battle against chemistry continues.  

One of the biggest problems now, other than the obvious health issues that these players may face, is the cloud of doubt and uncertainty raised over players that do not cheat.  Yesterday, ESPN talking-head and journalist wannabe Skip Bayless went as far as to accuse Derek Jeter of maybe using something illegal, because it is just not possible for a 38-year-old shortstop to be having the kind of year that he is having.  Guys like Jeter, 40-year-old Chipper Jones, 35-year-old Carlos Beltran, 36-year-old Paul Konerko, and 35-year-old AJ Pierzynski, all of which are having great seasons here in 2012 and have NEVER been linked to PED’s, have to be subjected to these questions, doubs, and accusations?  That is a real shame.  I never find myself defending MLB and Commissioner Bud Seelig, but, at least, they are giving me the impression that they are trying to take their collective heads out of the sand.  Meanwhile, the Player’s Association continues to humor this behavior by trying to sweep it under a little rug.  The player’s union needs to take a firm stand against all cheating, and protect all the players, not just the ones that get caught cheating.

The Miami Dolphins continue to prepare for friday’s preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons here at Seven-Name Stadium.  The game starts at 7:30, and you can see it on Channel 4 here in South Florida.  Good test for the Fins, especially on defense, as they match up against one of the high-powered offensive units in the league.  Atlanta’s defense also bears watching, as they are looking to improve drastically and they brought in former Miami defensive coordinator Mike Nolan to straighten that ship.  The third preseason game is very important from the standpoint that all NFL teams need to cut down their rosters to 75 players by this coming monday the 27th at 4:00 pm.  All the teams will play their 4th and final preseason game either wednesday or thursday next week, allowing them to reach the 53-man roster limit by Friday, August 31st at 9:00 pm.

Despues de batear 35 hits y anotar 17 carreras en los primeros dos juegos de su serie contra los Arizona Diamondbacks, los Marlins no pudieron continuar con esa fiesta de hits y perdieron el doblejuego ayer contra los D-Backs, 3-2 y 3-0.  Los Peces lograron solamente cinco hits en cada partido de ayer, y asi no es facil ganar.  Jacob Turner, el lanzador derecho de 21 años de edad, lucio bien en su debut con los Marlins despues de venir a Miami de Detroit en el cambio por Anibal Sanchez y Omar Infante.  Turner le permitio un jonron con uno en base al segundo bateador del juego, Aaron Hill, pero se calmo despues de eso y logro completar seis entradas. Turner demonstro buen control, ponchando a cinco sin regalar base por bolas.  Los Marlins van a tener que encontrar la forma de mantenerlo en la rotacion de abridores, aunque tengan que usar una rotacion de seis abridores el resto de la temporada.  En el segundo juego, Wade LeBlanc fue tan bueno como Turner, tirando siete entradas, en las que permitio las tres carreras, dos limpias, y cinco hits.  El equipo disfrutara de un dia de descanso hoy en el sur de California antes de enfrentarse a Hanley Ramirez y al resto de los Dodgers en Los Angeles en una serie de tres juegos este fin de semana.  Emilio Bonifacio regreso a la lista de los lesionados de 15 dias ayer con una lesion en la rodilla.  En el resto de los juegos de ayer, primero en la liga nacional

Otro miercoles, otro jugador de grandes ligas suspendido por Testosterone.  El miercoles pasado, fue Melky Cabrera.  Ayer, el ganador fue Bartolo Colon.  Esta suspension le va a costar por lo menos $1.5 millones a Colon.  Esta funcionando el plan de limpieza de las Grandes Ligas?  Las suspenciones de Cabrera y Colon (y Ryan Braun, si quieren), son señales de que existe una epidemia todavia en el deporte?  Desgraciadamente, creo que son las dos cosas.  Reportes de alrededor del mundo del beisbol nos dicen que el problema en este momento es la Testosterona sintetica, la cual no sube la relacion de testosterona a epitestosterona a 4:1, el numero que la MLB ha estado usando para sonar una alarma en las pruebas.  De acuerdo a los expertos, la testosterona sintetica supuestamente se desaparece del cuerpo bastante rapido, y si administra en cantidades pequeñas, no eleva los niveles de testosterona lo suficiente para enviar una alerta.  La batalla contra la quimica continua.    

Uno de los problemas que vemos hoy, ademas de los posibles problemas con la salud de estos jugadores pudieran tener en el futuro, es la nube de duda y las acusaciones en contra de los jugadores que no hacen trampa.  Ayer, un personaje llamado Skip Bayless, uno de tantos mentecatos que le dan espacio para que hablen boberias en ESPN, acuso a Derek Jeter de posiblemente estar usando algo ilegal porque, claro, no es posible que un campo corto de 38 años de edad este teniendo una temporada como la que Jeter esta teniendo.  Jugadores como Jeter, Chipper Jones (40 años de edad), Carlos Beltran (35), Paul Konerko (36), y AJ Pierzynski (35), todos disfrutando de grandes resultados esta temporada, nunca han estado bajo sospecha de nada y ahora tienen que enfrentarse a todas estas dudas, acusaciones, insinuaciones, y preguntas.  Esto da pena.

Yo nunca me encuentro en la situacion de defender al beisbol de las grandes ligas y su comisionado, Bud Seelig, pero por lo menos, me estan dando la impresion de que estan tratando de sacar sus respectivas cabezas de debajo de la tierra.  Mientras tanto, el sindicato de peloteros continua tratando de tapar el sol con un dedo.  La union tiene que tomar accion firme en contra de el uso de sustancias para mejorar el rendimiento en el deporte, y proteger a todos sus jugadores, no solamente a los que castigan por hacer trampa y violar las leyes del deporte.

Los Miami Dolphins siguen preparandose para el juego de pretemporada del viernes aqui en el estadium de los siete nombres contra los Atlanta Falcons.  El juego arranca a las 7:30, y sera televisado por el canal 4 aqui en el sur de la Florida.  Una buena prueba esta semana para Miami, especialmente para la defensiva, ya que se tienen que enfrentar a una de las ofensivas mas explosivas en la liga.  La defensa de los Falcons va a estar en la mirilla tambien, ya que buscan mejorar ese grupo drasticamente, trayendo a Mike Nolan como coordinador defensivo.  Nolan estuvo con los Dolphins como coordinador defensivo los ultimos dos años.  

El tercer juego de pretemporada lleva mucha importancia ya que este lunes, todos los equipos tienen que reducir sus rosters a 75 jugadores.  Todos los equipos de la liga jugaran su ultimo juego de pretemporada entre el miercoles y el jueves de la semana que viene, para poder llegar al roster final de 53 antes de la fecha limite del viernes 31 a las 9:00 pm.
