The Marlins took the day off yesterday, and today they welcome the New York Mets to Marlins Park for a weekend series. Knuckleballer RA Dickey takes the mound for the Mets today, the Marlins will counter with Nathan Eovaldi.  First pitch tonight will be at 7:10.  Tomorrow’s game also starts at 7:10, Jeremy Heffner vs. Josh Johnson; and the Sunday finale, a 1:10 contest.  We’ll see Chris Young and Mark Buehrle on the mound on Sunday.  Reviewing yesterday’s action in the National League,

Adam Jones his his 26th homer of the season.  The Orioles have won 5 out of 6 and are now just 3 games behind the first-place Yankees in the AL East.  The White Sox lead the AL Central by 3 games over the Detroit Tigers.

In checking the wild-card standings, first in the American League, if the season were to end today, the Oakland A’s and the Baltimore Orioles would be in.  Tampa Bay is 1 1/2 games behind the Orioles, Detroit is 3 games out, and the Angels are 3 1/2 games behind the O’s.  Over in the National league, Atlanta and St. Louis lead the pack.  Pittsburgh is 1/2 game behind the Cardinals, and the Dodgers find themselves 1 1/2 games behind St. Louis.

The Dolphins front office and coaches are frantically trying to improve their roster and will be scouring today’s lists of released players as all teams have to cut down their rosters from 75 to 53.  The Fins are looking to add offensive line depth and wide receiver talent, possibly in trades.  The team worked out free agent WR Donte Stallworth yesterday, and will be looking at a lot of options today.  I expect that the team will add no less than 8 new players before the regular season kicks off next sunday, September 9th, in Houston against the Houston Texans.  The Dolphins added to their arsenal of draft choices for next year by sending back-up offensive lineman Ryan Cook to the Dallas Cowboys for a seventh-round pick.  Cook was not going to make the Dolphins.  In draft picks for next year the Dophins have the following (by round):
